Last week I predicted (LinkedIn translation 🙄 🤡: Reposted) how the pandemic had dramatically advanced mRNA vaccines in the fight against cancer... More good news coming out of #ASCO today related to vaccines against melanoma in combination with immunotherapies. Melanoma affects over 150,000 people globally each year. The vaccine, known as mRNA-4157 (V940), is tailored to each patient using DNA sequencing and artificial intelligence, aiming to prevent the cancer from returning. It has shown to halve the risk of death or disease recurrence in patients. After three years, those who received the vaccine had a 49% lower risk of these outcomes. Highlighting the potential of therapeutic cancer vaccines in combination with immunotherapies to greatly improve patient outcomes.

Cancer mRNA vaccines have shown promising clinical advances and offer exciting future opportunities. The technology that played a crucial role in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections during the COVID-19 pandemic is now being explored for cancer treatment. Unlike traditional cancer vaccines, mRNA vaccines provide a unique approach that balances personalization and commercialization without being restricted by the patient's HLA haplotype. One key advantage of mRNA vaccines is the ability to enhance their stability and immunogenicity through engineering strategies. This advancement enables the stimulation of both innate and adaptive immune responses, showcasing the potential for comprehensive immune activation. While no mRNA-based cancer vaccines have yet received regulatory approval, multiple phase I–II trials have shown promising results, paving the way for further developments in this field. #mRNAvaccines #CancerResearch #Immunotherapy #ClinicalTrials #HealthInnovation https://lnkd.in/gmVixuu9
