Dynamic Operations specialist excelling in administrative support and efficiency optimization. Trained Full Spectrum Doula.
It's 10:03pm here in NJ (when I'm writing this). I finally have a moment to be, and I jump right on my phone and get to work! I find myself applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, and rewriting my resume to fit a job posting, constantly. I want to work, badly. Yes, I need money and omg do I need benefits. But almost moreso, I want to use what I've got. I started working 26 years ago y'all! Damn (in my Kevin Hart voice). I started as a cashier at a grocery store on Long Island and now just finished a research project for an environmental justice organization. I have learned so much in my 2 decades and a half of work experience. I want to use what I've got. After 26 years, I have: ✊🏽The ability to lead and motivate teams effectively (without wasting time in meetings that could have been emails or Slack messages) which I've shown while holding my team down at Seven Counties Services. I grew into a leader in that position, making staffing decisions, serving as an advocate for my team in interdepartmental meetings, and ensuring an even playing field where staff didn't need to compete or undermine each other. ✊🏽Stellar communication skills to convey goals and expectations clearly. I was happy to be the main point of contact for over 100 clients at Family Service League - Long Island. I was responsible for creating and keeping a rapport with clients from 2 separate teams. Once I was promoted, in less than 4 months, I ensured the person who reported to me, was as clear and concise and able to keep clients needs met and our lines clear. ✊🏽Analytical thinking to identify and address operational issues. I was able to flex this muscle at The Chisholm Legacy Project: A Resource Hub for Black Frontline Climate Justice Leadership. I created the onboarding process for staff and contractors who joined the team, during my tenure. I recognized the need for a grounding in not only Environmental Justice but also the importance of providing proper support to new employees so they don't run away! There's tons more, and I want to find an organization that needs me, someone who has the experience but also the willingness to learn even more. So yeah, I am #opentowork

🌟 Empowering Our Community: Supporting Local Businesses and Talent 🌟 One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career journey has been supporting local businesses and individuals in our community. From connecting skilled professionals with local job opportunities to assisting businesses in finding the right talent, I've seen first-hand the positive impact of nurturing our local economy and workforce. By championing local businesses in their recruitment efforts, we not only help them thrive but also create meaningful job opportunities for our neighbours and friends. Every new hire isn't just a role filled; it's an opportunity for someone to contribute their skills and passion to a business that values their talent. It's about empowering individuals to pursue fulfilling careers right here in our community. I believe in the strength of our local businesses and the potential of our community members. Founder/CEO at Rainier RevOps ✦ Author ✦ I talk about RevOps, Marketing, Careers, and Adult ADHD (from my personal experience)
I have a favor to ask and I'm looking to you for help. This isn’t something I do often but over the years I've built a network full of amazing and generous people. As a lot of you know, my view of the way companies hire is that it’s broken. It’s never been more obvious than watching my wife, Kyla Scott 🇺🇦🇺🇸 try to get a job. Some quick context: She has a Master’s Degree from the University of South Dakota and started a PhD program at Iowa State. She started her career as a social worker because she wanted to make a difference and didn’t care how much she was paid to do it. When we lived in Seattle, she worked for the State of Washington, first in CPS (Child Protection Services) and then in the Department of Early Learning where she helped with the licensing of daycares in the area. The bureaucracy of the public sector was getting her down and she was shackled from truly making a difference in people’s lives like she had hoped. On top of that, she and I experienced between 5-7 miscarriages - to the extent that we thought we would never have kids. Working around children became very difficult for her. As a result, she decided to step away from that line of work for awhile and was really just looking for a ‘job’. Sometimes, it’s good to just have a job. I was able to connect her with some people I knew at Microsoft and she began contracting in University recruiting and HR. Not ideal for her skillset and the pay wasn’t great. But, it was a job that gave her flexibility to work remotely - before that was a thing - and eventually the ability to work and take care of the three babies we would ultimately have - the youngest just turned one in September. In February she returned from maternity leave only to be laid off that same day. She’s been looking ever since and it’s absurd how difficult it has been for her. Mostly because she leads with her resume, which is not even close to representative of what she can do. As a former recruiter, let me break down what she’s capable of doing: - Program Management: she lead an entire statewide program during her time working for the State of Iowa - Project Management: she is extremely organized, can communicate well, and knows how to push things through to completion. - She’s a really fast learner - she’s recently started a business and has been using HubSpot, Canva, and Asana - She’s a great writer - She has helped build curriculums - She has written grant proposals for companies and taught them how to do this - She’s smart. REALLY smart. Sometimes it’s not about what you’ve done as much as it’s about potential and the company that embraces that and hires her will be a very lucky company. So, my favor…help me introduce her to people who get it and are looking for a raw talent who can provide unique perspectives, is eager to learn, will exceed their expectations versus someone coming in, set in their ways, but may know how to do the job from Day 1.
