Board certified Geropsychologist & Founder of Dementia Careblazers Offering Dementia Care Programs and Consulting
There are many ways to connect with people who have dementia. Reminiscence therapy is one of those ways. This is something many long term care facilities already use to connect with residents, but we can also use this in our day to day lives no matter where the person with dementia lives. Here's a video I recently shared on my YouTube channel on 5 ways to build better connections with someone who has dementia. Have you ever tried any of these approaches with the people with dementia in your life? . . #dementiacare #dementia #dementiasupport #dementiacaregiver #dementiaawareness #careblazers

When you are a caregiver for a loved one living with dementia, there eventually comes a time when things get a bit too much. You may feel like you’re facing difficult choices – you can't see how you'll keep going as a main caregiver, but you’re worried about putting your loved one in a care home. However, there is another option - a happy medium. Home dementia care provides tailored support for your loved one, while keeping them in the comforting surroundings of their home and protecting their independence. It also gives you a breather and allows you to reclaim your relationship as a son or daughter, rather than simply a carer. Founder of Dementia Darling| International Educator and Advocate For The Dementia Community| Gerontologist|
In the world of dementia care, language matters in so many ways. I mainly use the term "loved one" to describe those we care for, but this can overlook the complexities of relationships. I was reminded today by a family caregiver that not all people see the person they care for as a “loved one!” This made me stop and reflect on how to do my best to ensure inclusive language. I never want caregivers to feel any more isolated than they already do. MANY (too many 💔) caregivers provide unpaid care to family members despite past trauma or emotional distress. Dementia care requires empathy and understanding. By recognizing diverse caregiver experiences, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment. A reminder for us all to keep in mind that you never know the full story behind each caregiver's journey. ♥️ #DementiaCare #CaregiverSupport #Dementia #SeniorLiving
