How do you make a film that doesn’t feel like a film? Simple, you don’t treat it like one. From the start, we wanted this to feel more like a futuristic product launch than a traditional film. So, we set ourselves a challenge. We found the biggest studio in Naigaon—one that could house a massive 60x35 LED screen. Then came the details: raising the screen to the perfect height, fine-tuning the colors on display, and syncing every frame with the dialogue, all to ensure the screen didn’t just sit there but became a character. And then came the real challenges. The LED screen gave up on us the night before the shoot. When it was finally fixed, the content started running into compatibility issues with the screen. A four-hour delay later, we pulled through. Hope you love the campaign as much as we enjoyed making it! Before I was a social media girly, I made a horror movie 🎥 I never expected how a horror film would form my career in content creation and social media 😵💫 I did my MA in Film Production and as part of my final major project, I wrote, directed & edited a short film that was a love letter of sorts to the filmmakers and films that inspired me to study film. I stumbled across the work of Dario Argento, and then what would be my favourite film of all time - Suspiria, an Italian horror film from 1977. Never heard of it? Long story short: an American ballet dancer goes to a prestigious dance academy in Germany but soon discovers it's run by a coven of witches. Sounds great right? The film is a masterpiece of horror cinema and a genuinely operatic experience. The images are drenched in gorgeous coloured lighting and the soundtrack full of synths is equally as haunting as the images themselves. This film helped me understand film as an art, discover who I was as an artist, and evolve my craft. So, for my final major project, I made a film that was a love letter to Suspiria, Dario Argento and all of those Italian horror films I loved. Just like Suspiria, I drenched the cinematography in coloured lighting, threw in as many homages as possible, and took all of the mechanics of Italian horror and updated it into a modern romantic horror comedy. It sounds like something that absolutely should NOT work, but, somehow it did. I got an A for my hand-in! I then took it to festivals and it played in indie genre fests across the world, including Giallo Fest in Paris, Death Northern in York, and Spooky Empire in Florida. In the end, we won and were nominated for over 20 awards including best film & best director. All great, but I didn't really want to work in the film industry, I wanted to work in content creation. I got my first job straight out of university shooting a Halloween campaign for a Manchester-based beauty brand. How? They wanted their campaign to be shot in coloured lighting, and they saw my film and chose me to do it. It's a bit surface level, but, I would soon realise in my career that a lot of employers that are not creative themselves, will need to see exactly what they want in your work, and don't think about how adaptable creatives are to style and tone. But, that's a post for another time. Anyway, the Halloween campaign was their most successful campaign at the time and it led me to my next work, and my next role, and the role after that, and five years later led me to being the Social Media Content Manager for FB Comms. I was sitting in the reception area of a post production studio. My students were undergoing Sound related workshop in that studio. Suddenly, I heard a conversation. Where an Assistant Director was feeling bad for the lost of the film that he is currently working. Asst. Director: Most of the scenes shot for my movie was deleted because of the non sync with the story flow. The coat of the deleted scenes could be surely 1 Crore. Studio Person: Oh! is it so? How did you arrived the calculation? Asst. Director: Number of days shot, Artist Salary, and shooting days expenses. If the director would have done proper scene deleting at the script level, then this loss could be avoided. May be this money could be spent on better filmmaking experience like set design, VFX etc. I was there listening to their conversation. I was unable to do handshake and hug him for what he said right. Script auditors like me are put on silent mode by the industry. Just to avoid few thousands as our service charges, they incur loss in crores. At last someone got it right. Yes, we can save lakhs and crores of money when the story is in script level.

Super excited to see this project develop into an indispensable knowledge base and wealth tool for financial advisors and the clients they serve. Retirement planning used to be ‘annuities, bonds and modest spending’, but has become more challenging and complicated as people are living longer, much healthier and productive lives. (Future actuarial tables will be revised dramatically as AI tech improves healthcare!) Goodbye! Dont let the door hit you on the way out! So, i put up a post about 'Indie not saving Hollywood' and someone (whos now 'un-connected') came for me. Their first issue: How dare I use an AI picture! - I use AI pics cos of this Algorithm of pain, I use AI because its easy to get pics i would like, i get AI because i'm not stealing it off google, i use AI because I am not a millionaire and dont have a Graphic designer on standby to drawer my every whim for the appreciation of 200 people that scroll past this post! They also had a go at me for beating up indie... jeewizz... I am not! i am a proud Indie 'Producer!' I was just talking about the fact my indie films are not going to make a billion per film which hollywood needs! Many had great views on it and great discussions were had. There are many Ironies here. 1) They are currently running a competition for short film screen writers to 'Get their short made' as the winning prize... ie. They want them to do the writing for free as they dont have any ideas of their own and cant pay them! Its not a collab, its blatant slave labour. But using AI and 'stealing an image' is one step too far... 2) I know about this comp, because their 'PA' DM'd me about it. They're a TINY Indie producer...(i'll put about this in point 3) why do you need a PA? They're surely not that busy! And if they are using a PA and aren't busy they have either time management issues or too much money and Ego. 3) Shes coming across as a big shot on here... ye go onto their IMDB...They have a couple of shorts, where shes credited herself as - Actor, Graphic Designer, Casting Cinematographer, Wardrobe Stylist, Director, Editor, Colorist, Hair, Makeup, Producer, Production Designer, Unit Production Manager, Sound Designer, Stunt Choreography, Additional Visual Effects, Writer! and their partner (with a rediculous Psudonym) as - Cinematographer, Editor, End Credits Music, Associate Producer, Audio Description Vo, Additional Visual Effects and their 'PA' as - Actor, Editor, Captions Colorist, Makeup, Director's Assistant, Associate Producer! Like you are a 3 man band! Fair play on making a short, and doing it, but be real on here! They have also 'Optioned' films to their own production company... thats not how it works. It looks REDICULOUS! I hope you all know I have been in this industry a long time, (nearly 20 years!) but as an extra, AD and Locations. I am just starting my producing adventure. I hope i dont come accross as a know it all ego, and my views are my own, which are usually researched. For heavens sake, be real! you wont fool anyone! (oh dear i used an AI image, the prompt the first sentance of this post! - i'm that lazy!)

Really insightful advice/tips on short film production and things to bear in mind when writing for the screen - might be useful for students writing their first projects?

Those Names And Title Credit You See Before A Movie Starts, Do You Know What They Do? Sure most of you don’t. So Lets Break Them Down For Those Who Dont Know. EXECUTIVE PRODUCER -This is the one sponsoring the movie. He/She provides the funds and financial backing to execute the project. EPs are usually investors looking to invest their money in a Movie. PRODUCER -The Producer is the one who assembles the cast, crew, logistics etc He/She is also responsible for paying for cast and crew services (using the funds provided by the Executive Producer) and making all necessary arrangements to make the movie successful. A producer sometimes is also the EP. PRODUCTION MANAGER -This is one who assists the producer to manage the provisions being made by the Producer. The PM may also keep financial records and works with the Producer to ensure the Movie stays within proposed Budget. DIRECTOR -The one who directs the projects from start to finish. Ditecting is the most important part of the moviemaking. He/She takes the lead and directs actors and the rest of the crew to give the movie the desired result which the Producer have outlined. ACTOR -Actor gets into the character that must be portrayed. He/She has to be very skilled else the movie is not interesting to watch. STORY -The one who created the story SCRIPT/SCREENPLAY - The one who pens the story into spoken words, scenes and montages. The scriptwriter must know how many words that make up a scene in order not to make the scenes too lengthy or too brief. SCRIPT EDITOR- Reads through the script to correct any mistakes or blunders. EDITOR -the ones who arranges the video clips from scene to scene in order of sequence to create the movie. SPECIAL EFFECTS -the one who creates the effects. Example when you see a human flying in the movie DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY -this person takes the video shoots. He selects what camera angles will suit each scene. LOCATION MGR -This is the person who seek out locations for each scene. He must know the terrains and laws guiding a Location or recruit assistants who know the terrain and laws. SET DESIGN -the one who creates the environment where a scene took place. Example a set designer would design an environment to have the feel and look of a kings palace MAKE UP -Some people think make up has to do with lips and cosmetics but it is much mor than that. The make up artist turns actors into a desired character. Example painting an actor to look like a scary ghost COSTUME -this persons selects all the dresses to be worn by actors for each scene SET PROPS manages the properties used on set MUSIC -This Person creates the music and soundtracks to be used. He/She may also work with the Editor to select which sound is suitable for each Scene SOUND -this person ensures the actors remain audible throughout the shoot. Their primary is to hold a mic close to the actors speeches whilst still hiding it from Camera.
