‘Scotland’s Chernobyl’ finally set to be demolished A local council in Scotland is to begin tendering for a demolition contractor, to undertake the first phase of major demolition works to a rundown residential estate dubbed ‘Scotland’s Chernobyl’. Inverclyde Council has confirmed that it is to tear down the derelict Clune Park estate in Port Glasgow, following the issuing of 138 dangerous building notices for residences in 15 of the site’s 45 four-storey blocks. Now, the 138 flats, along with the estate’s a former Clune Park school and church - all of which have suffered serious damage over the years as a result of anti-social behaviour, will soon be brought down. The first of the residential buildings were built in 1905 to house workers for the local shipyard workers. While more blocks were added to the site in the following decades, the post-World War II decline of area’s shipbuilding industry has ultimately resulted in the site becoming all but abandoned. According to local media reports, there are around five individuals still in residence on the estate, which comprises around 450 individual apartments in total. Another two tranches of dangerous buildings notices have also been issued by Inverclyde Council for apartments in the remaining tenements, although the number of properties involved are not yet known. 🚧Sinkhole Incident in Sydney: Halts Tunnel Construction: 10 evacuated , Workers shifted to safe location. During excavation work for a tunnel construction project in Sydney, Australia, a sinkhole occurred near a building site. **What do we #learn from such #occurance is important for the #Tunneling Community. ✅Possible reasons may include ground loss during any subsurface excavation or any other activities including sub surface drainage system without adequate filter (IF NOT UNLIKELY NATURAL) ✅One simple procedure for mitigating ground subsidence risks is correlating excavated volume to muck disposal quantity frequently ; if exceeded, close monitoring of surroundings of each CUM of earth excavated and removed becomes essential especially working in soil. ✅Drawings shall invariably integrate Robust Fail safe Protocol in construction method including OBSERVATION FORMAT, REAL TIME ALERT LEVELS and MITIGATION. ✅ Such occurrences underscore the need of automated mechanism for safety. 🌊 Coastal Defence Success Story 🌊 Aggregate Industries, in collaboration with Jackson Civil Engineering, successfully delivered 89,000 tonnes of rock armour to the £29M Stallingborough Sea Defence Improvement Scheme. Completed last month, this project marks the third phase of coastal enhancements designed to protect 2,300 homes and critical infrastructure in the area. The scope of the project is astounding. A 4.5km stretch has been fortified, with over 3km of rock armour sourced from our Glensanda superquarry in Scotland and Bardon Hill quarry in Leicestershire. This initiative not only renews the flood defences for another 25 years but also adheres to strict environmental guidelines to protect migrating birds within the Humber Estuary. 🦅🌱 Their collective efforts have showcased the power of adaptable and efficient logistics, particularly in overcoming unpredictable docking and strict construction timelines. The durability of their granite rock armour, combined with its eco-friendly benefits, exemplifies a balanced approach to both protection and preservation. #CoastalDefence #EnvironmentalSustainability #EngineeringInnovation

Customer Testimonial ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We recently installed a haul road on-site at Foxes Field for Champion Groundworks and Classic Builders . Here's what Dave Gambrill from Classic Builders had to say about his first experience with using stabilisation: "I'm currently running a 79 House scheme of Affordable House’s in Penzance for Livewest. The first 6 months of the scheme were really hampered by the continuous wet weather to the extent it was affecting our progress due to very thick mud. I was approached by our Groundworks Contractor, Champion Groundworks, about the possibility of putting in a lime stabilized haul road to improve access to the sub-structures and road drainage that we were in the process of constructing. I had never heard of this process before, so it was explained to us along with its benefits. We agreed to use this process over a 150m long Haul road and I was impressed with how well it stood up under a pretty constant flow of heavy plant (including 21 and 25 ton excavators, a 14 ton telehandler and 12 ton dump trucks). Since then, we managed to get some of our site roads in, omitting the need for the haul road. The lime stabilized material was taken back out and then stockpiled on site for future use. This includes back filling under our roads up to the stone formation, It compacts extremely well and once compacted, it hardens giving great CBR readings for the road formation. I would certainly use this system again as it was well worth the additional expenditure as it allowed us to maintain our program and as the material did not have to be carted off site, giving a saving on Muck away and road formation materials. Overall, a successful system." Thanks Classic Builders for your support and we look forward to supporting you again in the future 🤝 Get in touch today to find out how we can support your project: office@gss-uk-co.uk 01392 342513 #groundstabilisationsolutions #gss #soilstabilisation #soilmodification #soil #groundworks #earthworks #customertestimonial #classicbuilders #stabilisation #stabilization #limestabilisation #constructionuk #constructionprojects #ecofriendlyengineering #housebuilders
