Wiz walks away from $23B Alphabet talks: Israeli cybersecurity player Wiz reportedly abandoned talks on a proposed $23 billion acquisition by Alphabet, opting to focus on a potential IPO instead. According to an internal email seen by Reuters, Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport stated rejecting “such humbling offers is tough” but noted the move was the right choice, He did not mention Alphabet directly in the memo. Rappaport added the company will now focus on an initial plan to launch IPO, with a goal to achieve an annual recurring revenue of $1 billion. Wiz and Alphabet apparently entered talks over a potential deal earlier this month which would have been the Google-parent’s largest ever acquisition, as it attempts to beef up its security business. Google is getting close to a record $23 billion deal to acquire Israeli cybersecurity company Wiz. According to the story, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is reportedly in "advanced talks" to acquire Wiz, a company based in #NewYork. This would be the largest #acquisition of an Israeli tech company and double Alphabet's largest acquisition to yet, which was the $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola in 2012. The publication pointed out that the possible transaction would occur at a time when startups have been leery of mergers and acquisitions because of fears of antitrust monitoring, and that Google is looking to strengthen its cloud computing company, for which Wiz supplies cybersecurity. Assaf Rappaport, Yinon C., Ami Luttwak, and Roy R.-launched Wiz in early 2020. This same team founded Adallom, which Microsoft acquired in 2015 for $320 million. They oversaw the Cloud Security Group for Microsoft Azure as well. Forty percent of the Fortune 100 firms, including Slack, Mars, BMW, DocuSign, Plaid, and Agoda, are among its clientele.
