The future of the workforce is deeply entwined with AI. And enterprise AI agent startups, mostly early-stage, are rushing to seize the opportunity. The landscape is also seeing rapidly rising levels of investment from bullish VCs with investors pouring $2B into these startups in the last 2 years. But based on CB Insights Commercial Maturity data, 93% of companies are still in the early stages of building or deploying their solutions. No dominant winners have emerged yet, and plenty of companies reckon they have a shot. Taken together, these data points suggest the ecosystem is on the verge of another growth spurt and enterprises will soon have a ballooning number of agent offerings to parse through.

In the world of AI, specialization is key. While big generalist models are gaining mass-market attention, the real value lies in models tailored to unique business needs. At Velocity NYC 2024, Alexander Ratner, Co-founder and CEO of Lightspeed-backed Snorkel AI highlighted how startups can gain a competitive edge through a focused approach, unlike large companies that often concentrate on generalist AI models to appeal to a broad audience. He emphasized that the businesses poised for success "focus on models that are accurate, efficient, and cost-effective for their specific use cases." Think of it like this: Generalist AI is like a Swiss Army knife—handy for many things. But for real success, you need a precise tool, like a scalpel—perfect for the job. Investor's Choice: Does AI Serve as a Shortcut to Investor Approval? I recently read an article that got me pondering: do startups often get lured by the emerging technologies, believing it's the guaranteed path to capturing investors' interest? I wonder how much effort the startups have invested in customer discovery to address fundamental questions: "Am I genuinely solving the right problems? Am I delivering the value that my customers truly desire?" If a startup is grappling with these uncertainties, perhaps it's time to pivot and shift the focus from technology-centric approach to understanding real pain points and delivering tangible value to their customers. Technology should just serve as a tool to assist customers in achieving their key objectives. Do you think that AI is the secret ingredient to win investor's attention ? I would love to hear your thoughts. #customerdiscovery #venturecapital #growthmindset https://lnkd.in/eMgsyBm9
