"A Fourtec Case Study: temperature monitoring for veterinary pharmaceuticals and pet food" Veterinary pharmaceuticals and pet food production processes require an effective temperature monitoring solution. One of Fourtec's end customers, a known veterinary pharmaceuticals and consumables company, required control and monitoring of temperature solutions during transportation to ensure quality and safety of their products while shipped to their distributors. The client decided to use the PicoLite, a limited-use Temperature logger. The PicoLite's data is collected, stored, and analyzed via the DataSuite software or the FourteLite app, providing real-time monitoring and alert notifications in case of any temperature deviations. The mentioned customer added the PicoLite to their freight packaging (a cooled container) before leaving their production plant, and once the packages arrived at their final destination (by air/sea transport according to their customer's requirements), all data logged was sent by an automatic email back to headquarters. I formulated Hippie Hounds products in my kitchen over 4 years ago. I was working full-time as an ER Vet Tech, getting my specialty in Veterinary Cannabis, & moonlighting as a part time budtender- for market research. 😉 I set out on a mission- a deep calling- to take action & provides safe access to cannabis for canines. I witnessed Veterinarians leave themselves out of the conversation, shy away from studies, and essentially refuse to consider cannabis. I wrestled with finding a space for myself as I wasn't "pharmaceutical" enough for Vet Med & I wasn't "THC" enough for dispensaries. I was definitely too edgy for your run-of-the-mill pet shop. Yet I knew that I belonged in those places. I knew they cared about ingredients as much as I did. I knew they cared about testing, safety, research, efficacy, compassionate care, quality control, but most importantly... The Dogs. So I fought for my place. I educated Veterinarians as an international master speaker & certified instructor with the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. Then hospitals began to carry my treats, turn to me for guidance, and give hemp a shot- instead of pharmaceuticals. Then I turned to our medical dispensaries & began to teach there too. Veterinary Cannabis deserves its place & I was here to carve it out. 1 by 1 dispensaries saw excited pet parents and my treats flying off the shelf. The pet stores, grooming salons, boarding facilities, general stores and more began to hear stories of Hippie Hounds changing a dogs life. So we began to service those stores as well. Rapidly growing our capacity, our locations, our processes, & our people. Dogs are healing. From seizures to anxiety, pain to nausea, and just about everything in between. The more unique cannabinoid profiles- and the more incredible the healing power of Hippie Hounds became. 4 years later and Hippie Hounds is in over 200 retailers across 18 states and counting- with active international clinical trials. Cannabis Use in Dogs: A Growing Trend As cannabis becomes more widely accepted for human use, some pet owners are turning to cannabis-based products for their dogs. Primarily, these products contain cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis plants that is believed to offer therapeutic benefits without the "high" associated with THC. Potential Benefits CBD is being used for dogs to manage conditions like anxiety, chronic pain, arthritis, and seizures. Studies, though limited, suggest that CBD may help reduce pain and inflammation, improve mobility, and even calm anxious pets. The American Kennel Club has cited anecdotal evidence from pet owners and veterinarians about positive effects, particularly for dogs with arthritis or epilepsy. Risks and Concerns While CBD products for dogs are gaining popularity, there are risks. THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, is toxic to dogs and can lead to serious health issues like vomiting, disorientation, and even seizures. For this reason, it’s crucial to use products specifically formulated for pets, which contain little to no THC. What to Know Before Use The cannabis market for pets is still largely unregulated, so it's important for dog owners to consult with a veterinarian before using any cannabis-based product. Proper dosage is key, and CBD’s effects can vary between dogs. Currently, research on long-term effects and safety is still limited, so caution is advised. CALL FOR SUBMISION OF APPLICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION OF BV21 LISTED VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCTS (VMPs) The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA), referred to herein as the Authority, would like to notify all its valued stakeholders that in accordance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act (MRSA) of 2013, it established a Veterinary Medicines Register comprising the interim BV List (of quasi Market Authorization (MA) / listed VMPs) and the BOV List (of full MA / registered VMPs). In the BoMRA letters sent to the stakeholders, communicating its intention to establish the BV List, it was indicated that inclusion of the products in the BV List was not based on the successful evaluation of the safety, quality, and efficacy of the products and that the stakeholders were, within the next 5 year MA validity period, required to submit an application, in a prescribed manner and accompanied by a prescribed fee, for full registration of the products. The Authority, in its subsequent stakeholder engagements, have communicated the need for all stakeholder whose products have been included on the BV List to consider submission of their dossiers before or at the end of the third year to allow BoMRA adequate time to validate completeness and conduct scientific evaluation of the quality, safety and efficacy of the BV Listed VMPs and issue full MA before or by the end of the first 5 year quasi-MA validity period.    If there are any further questions on the information communicated above, please do not hesitate to contact the Authority on info@bomra.co.bw or registration.vetmeds@bomra.co.bw
