Today is international self-care day. We spend a lot of time in behavioral health teaching others to care for themselves - today we invite you to do the same, remembering that self-care, rather that selfish, is a necessity for overall health and wellbeing. Self-care doesn't follow a script - it looks different for everyone and can range from getting enough sleep to checking off a task to taking some deep breaths. What is one thing, big or small, that you commit to doing to care for yourself today?

As a healthcare professional, I always advise my patients to practice self-care and establish healthy boundaries, not just during high-stress periods. It can be challenging to prioritize one's own needs, especially for those who tend to prioritize others over themselves. However, I strongly encourage all our patients to make self-care and setting healthy boundaries a consistent part of their lifestyle. Here are some essential steps you can take to prioritize self-care: 1️⃣ Focus on what truly matters, and avoid taking on more than you can handle by saying no to overcommitment. 2️⃣ Remember that setting boundaries and taking care of yourself is not selfish but a necessary component of overall well-being. 3️⃣ Reach out for support and build a network who can help you when you need it. 4️⃣ Nurture yourself so you can better care for others. By taking care of yourself, you will be better equipped to help those around you when they need it. #HealthyBoundaries #MentalHealth #PatientAdvice #PrioritizingYourself #SupportSystem

An empath who believes that GRIT & having BHAG is as critical as IQ & EQ. Perseverance, Resilience & Stamina to succeed whilst having the ability to remain kind is what brings my success!
World Health Day is an important global observance that highlights the significance of good health and well-being for individuals and societies. It serves as a reminder for us to prioritize our health and take necessary steps to maintain and improve it. Self-care is an integral part of maintaining good health and well-being. It involves deliberate actions and practices that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Engaging in self-care activities can reduce stress, improve overall health, and contribute to a better quality of life. In today's fast-paced and demanding world, self-care is often overlooked or neglected. However, it is important to recognize that taking care of ourselves is not selfish, but rather a necessary investment in our own well-being. By practicing self-care, we can better manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Self-care includes activities such as exercising regularly, eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, and practicing mindfulness or relaxation techniques. It can also involve engaging in hobbies, spending time with loved ones, seeking therapy or counseling when needed, and setting boundaries to protect our mental and emotional well-being. On World Health Day and beyond, it is important to raise awareness about self-care and its significance in our lives. By prioritizing our own well-being, we not only benefit ourselves but also become better equipped to support and contribute to the health and well-being of others in our communities. Listen below to CEO of WHOF capture the essence of #worldhealthday 2024!
Today, on #WorldHealthDay, I’m reminded of the importance of self-care, not out of selfishness, but out of necessity. The past years have brought unprecedented levels of anxiety and uncertainty, impacting us all in profound ways. It's natural to feel overwhelmed and isolated during such times. Yet, just as we're instructed on a plane to secure our own oxygen masks first before assisting others, prioritizing our own health allows us to better support those around us. By nurturing our physical and mental well-being - whether through reaching out to loved ones, seeking professional support, or simply taking time for ourselves - we not only strengthen our own resilience but also become better equipped to help others. So, let's take a moment today to show ourselves compassion and care. Whether it's a phone call to a friend, a visit to a healthcare provider, or a small act of self-kindness, let's prioritize our well-being together. Because by looking after ourselves, we can truly contribute to a healthier, more compassionate world. #HealthEquity #HealthForAll

Unleash the Power of Connection: The Transformative Role of Support Groups in Chronic Illness Management Navigating a chronic illness like ulcerative colitis can be an isolating experience. But the power of community support is undeniable. Recently, I had the privilege of interviewing Jane Harper, a dedicated support group leader who has lived with ulcerative colitis for over a decade. Jane has made it her mission to create a safe space for those facing similar challenges, helping them find strength, resilience, and hope. In our discussion, Jane emphasized the profound impact that a supportive community can have on managing chronic illness. From sharing personal stories to offering practical advice, her group provides invaluable resources that go beyond medical treatment. The sense of connection and understanding within these groups can be a critical component of the healing process. For professionals in the healthcare and wellness sectors, understanding the importance of these support networks is crucial. Whether you’re a healthcare provider, a wellness coach, or someone living with a chronic condition, recognizing the power of connection can make a significant difference in your approach to care and self-management. CTA: If you or someone you know is managing a chronic illness, consider joining or supporting a community like Jane’s. The shared experiences and collective wisdom can be transformative. #ChronicIllness #UlcerativeColitis #SupportGroups #Healthcare #Wellness #PatientAdvocacy #MentalHealth #CommunityCare

This week I was scrolling through Facebook and I saw a post from a mom seeking advice on how to handle some symptoms she was having. Everyone’s comments were supportive, but one response in particular caught my attention – "If your child was not feeling well, what would you do?" This was a powerful reminder that as moms, we often prioritize our children’s health above our own. But here's the thing: our health shouldn’t be put on pause! As moms, as professionals, as human beings, our well-being matters. We cannot pour from an empty cup so taking care of ourselves is not selfish, it is necessary. It enables us to show up fully for our families, our teams, and ourselves. 💖 Especially as February marks American Heart Month for women, let's take a moment to prioritize our heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, and it's essential that we prioritize self-care and regular health check-ups. You can find more information at American Heart Association. So, to all the amazing moms out there juggling countless responsibilities – you are worthy, you are valued, and your health matters. Take the time to rest when needed, seek support when necessary, and never hesitate to seek medical care. And to my fellow HR leaders – let's create workplace cultures that prioritize employee well-being, where taking care of ourselves is not only encouraged but celebrated. 💕 #WorkingMom #EmployeeWellbeing #SelfCare #MomsSupportingMoms #CHROPerspective
