Today we are sharing this National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) resource on racial trauma. As we work with children who have experienced trauma we acknowledge the systemic racism and the work that still needs to be done in dismantling systems of oppression in our country. https://lnkd.in/ebc93_Cd #childmentalhealth #MLKday

Can We Break Our Intergenerational Trauma? ◾️ A great grandparent, that lived through the Second World War is changed. ◾️ Traumatised by the bombings, conflicts and a national sense of loss after so much death, an entire generation of the world tries to piece their lives back together. ◾️ Their maladaptive behaviours, trauma expressions, angers, fears and anxieties are handed to their children in a twisted game of pass the parcel. ◾️ The next generation live through economic crashes, war, Cold War and domestic terrorism. ◾️ Their parents trauma along with their own are passed to their children. Anger, anxiety, violence and shame are normalised forms of parenting. ◾️ Your parents, raised by the children of WW2 survivors are still brutalised and demeaned. Violence in parenting is still normalised, violence against women is still hideously ignored and mismanaged. ◾️ They pass their traumas to you, the next person in the trauma pass the parcel. ◾️ But this is where it stops, with you. Society has evolved our understanding of the human brain; it’s biology, it’s psychology and it’s development has revolutionised how we see ourselves. ◾️ We must learn to forgive our abusers, the hate that ruled their lives and the pain that dictated their childhood, can be a huge amount to comprehend. ◾️ We must learn to peel off the layers of the parcel; to take away the effects of inter generational trauma and learn to live free from the shame of others. ◾️ The parcel stops here, so not pass it to the next generation, but own it. Get the therapy, it works. ◾️ I am here, I see you, I see your pain and I am ready to listen. ◾️ Stronger, together. ◾️ #therapy #therapyworks #trauma #traumarecovery #traumaheilung #healing #mindset #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #grow

How can you help incarcerated individuals heal unresolved trauma and open their hearts to the healing message of the gospel? Give to our Healing Wounds of Trauma program, established in 2018 and offered in the correctional facilities where we minister. Today, in 26 states and 15 countries, nearly 300 are trained and equipped facilitators, including men and women behind bars. The program combines the wisdom of Scripture, proven mental health practices, and the power of community. For more than 20 years, people of faith all over the world have been learning how to safely and effectively lead groups and help people grow closer to God. Group lessons use art, stories, activities, and discussion questions to help people engage deeply with themselves, with God, and with each other. We praise God, as 6,534 men and women behind bars have taken part in Healing Wounds of Trauma. Please pray with us -- may God bring full healing to each one and call others to discover the program -- whether as a facilitator, or as one who seeks healing. And perhaps you may even feel called to give in support of the program. Trauma is hard. Racial Trauma is another level of affliction. Because we endure it since our childhood, the wound deepens as we get to adulthood. 📈 Our resilience grows and so does our pain. I’m currently going through workplace discrimination. It’s taken a toll on me. My nervous system is so dysregulated that today I put the Lysol disinfectant wipes in the fridge! 🤦🏽♀️ I laughed when I saw it and then immediately felt sad-because I understand the psychology behind this. Something that seemed so silly and small was actually so serious and big. Racial trauma is not just induced by 1 incident, but by ongoing incidents over many years. Imagine being hit in the same spot on your body for years 🤕🥊: what will it do to that specific body part? To the rest of your body? What is the severity of the damage? And is it possible to heal in this lifetime🪫🙍🏽♂️? Which brings me to generational trauma. Disenfranchised communities don’t inherit financial wealth💁🏼♂️💵, we inherit trauma 💁🏻♂️🌪️. In addition to the trauma we experience in our own lifetime. Coping Tools 🧰🛠️: ▪️Go to therapy ▪️Lean on your BIPOC+ community ▪️Step into your power using your voice I will continue to use my voice and advocate for justice 📣💁🏽♀️✨. The is not just about me. This isn’t just happening to me. This is for my BIPOC, undocumented immigrant, and disenfranchised community dealing with workplace discrimination and psychological abuse❤️🩹. #iwillnotbesilenced #rocíohasavoice
