🌍 Help Us Make Our Conference Greener Than Ever! 🌱 In case you have missed it: we’re thrilled to announce our upcoming conference on 27 and 28 of March 2025. And this time, we're committed to making it as sustainable as possible. ♻️ One of the small but impactful changes we're considering is reusing keycords. The picture below may look familiair to you: after each conference you have another keycord you never use again... So instead of giving out new ones every year, we plan to collect, wash and reissue them in the next conference. This got us thinking about other ways we can reduce our environmental footprint. As we enter the new year, UICCA looks back on a year of strategic growth and achievements in climate action under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. One of our major achievements in 2023 was partnering with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a key step in our global climate action and aligning with the Paris Agreement. During the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, UICCA established significant partnerships with globally recognized organizations, emphasizing our focus on global cooperation, impactful policy and green economy solutions. A pivotal development was the launch of the UAE Carbon Alliance, a coalition of partners dedicated to advancing the development of a carbon market ecosystem. In September 2023, UICCA launched a subsidiary, The Climate Tribe, a social enterprise designed to inspire action through storytelling and community engagement. November saw the introduction of Climate Call, a platform to empower youth with a collaborative ecosystem to share, refine and implement their climate action ideas, ensuring every voice contributes to a sustainable future. UICCA presence at Climate Week NYC involved high-level discussions, emphasizing our cooperative approach to global climate action. The year also saw the launch of our startup launchpad program underscoring our commitment to growing innovative green tech solutions. Our participation in COP28 with a dedicated pavilion and program of events, showcased our innovative solutions and allowed us to foster meaningful discussions about the future of climate action whilst connecting with key stakeholders from various sectors. Furthermore, we hosted our first ‘policy hack’ aimed at creating a conducive environment for electric mobility in the UAE. The event brought together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss and explore ideas for transitioning from petrol to electric vehicles, demonstrating our commitment to innovative and sustainable transportation solutions. As we step into 2024, UICCA remains committed to driving our mission to accelerate the green economy and impactful climate action. We are honoured to be featured in the Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2024 list for the third consecutive year. Compiled by the Financial Times and data provider Statista, HLA is among one of seven Singapore companies recognised in the list of 350 businesses. Notably, compared to last 2023, we not only reduced intensity of core emissions for Scope 1 and 2, we also improved our score. In the way forward, we will continue to innovate and explore new ways to reduce carbon emissions in our operations and products, and actively support the green transition of the built environment and transportation industries. Join us from 7-9 February 2024, as experts and world leaders come together for insightful discussions under the umbrella theme, ‘Leadership for Sustainable Development and Climate Justice. We are delighted to be part of the deliberations that aim to bring stakeholders together to further strengthen #sustainability. Together with our partners, we are supporting panel discussions with thematic inputs from key stakeholders and officials from the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany (AA) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). Under the umbrella of the Indo-German development cooperation, the Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India (CAP) is delighted to partner with TERI for the Summit, striving for engaging conversations on #SDG implementation and sustainable development. The project is funded under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), BWMK and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. It implements the Interface function for IKI projects in #India. When we at the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator think about the Caribbean being a living lab, it's about being a petri dish and not a guinea pig. Once we identify an emerging technology or programme as having high potential for the region, we want to facilitate its implementation in the Caribbean as a proof of concept at scale. We want to see projects succeed so that we can build on our centers of excellence in the region and continue to learn from them. This is what underpins the Accelerator, and why we are so proud of championing the Caribbean on the global stage - we can be the world’s first climate-smart zone. Being able to discuss these themes at COP28 UAE, whether in civil society meetings or stages like the Island of Hope today, enables us to get one step closer to finding the solutions we need to implement lasting sustainable development in the Caribbean. These conversations alongside tools like our Climate Smart Map are invaluable, and hold the key to fighting climate change.
