The Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI) – a research center designed to address violent crime in Chattanooga – was recently created by UTC’s Dr. Rick Dierenfeldt and the UTC Criminal Justice Department. The VRI represents a bold commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world solutions to help improve law-enforcement strategies and reduce crime in our communities. The center will help make an impact on our community but also help the UTC Criminal Justice Department be more competitive for external funding, encourage a higher level of community engagement, support student-faculty research collaboration, and put the department in a position to develop research and policy that addresses highly important issues. 🌎 Annual Report 2023: SOMOS Comunidad 🌎  In 2023, PADF made significant strides in empowering Colombia’s most vulnerable communities through community-driven initiatives. By supporting 126 civil society organizations (CSOs), we boosted their organizational capabilities by 94% and helped develop 52 protection models, five of which were adopted as national policies. Our work also encouraged civic engagement through Municipal Youth Councils and Victims' Committees, ensuring that local voices shape the future.  We also focused on enhancing trust in Colombia’s National Police, raising public confidence from 56.8% to 62.7% over the past five years through targeted training and community-police partnerships.  Additionally, we strengthened 34 municipalities by nearly tripling institutional effectiveness and fostering dialogue on citizen security, promoting a safer and more resilient future.  Uncover more highlights in the images and follow the link 🔗 shorturl.at/ocfR5 for the full report. Yesterday, we and FIEC EU with the support of the AEIP - European Association of Paritarian Institutions held the kick-off meeting of the EU-funded project “Social Identity Cards in Construction” (SIDE-CIC) 🏗 👷♂️ We - shared the key findings from the mapping exercise showing the current situation of social identity cards, highlighting the diversity and potential for linking national ID cards despite technological and legal differences. - Discussed the next steps of the project including a feasibility study on the interconnectivity of the existing national schemes.

➡ Our commitment, in the R2COM project, is to empower civil society and communities to understand, signal, assess, and comprehensively respond to the challenges posed by radicalisation and extremism!  Since this is a shared concern throughout Europe, other projects and initiatives have been paving their way to make a difference 🙌 🔎 Today, we acknowledge the #icommit project, which aims to set up and implement effective collaborative (case) work in countering violent extremism. To do so, it reinforces the importance of:   ✔Local multi-agency cooperation;  ✔ Empowering local actors to develop coordinated intervention plans via trust-based partnerships. ✅By placing cooperation at its core, the icommit project is advancing P/CVE at a local level!  👉 In the R2COM project, we are attentive to good practices, as we value empowerment and cooperation as a way to achieve safer and more integrated communities, which we have been achieving in the last years, via:  ✔ A network of European professionals; ✔ A humane and non-stigmatising assessment tool for the post-release setting; ✔Innovative and tailored training efforts; ✔Case management practical manual.
