If there's one process that holds the key to more sustainable water treatment around the world, it's reverse osmosis (RO). RO is a filtration method that removes contaminants from water by pushing it through a semi-permeable membrane. As freshwater becomes increasingly scarce, RO could be a game-changer for turning wastewater back into usable water. The problem is that traditional RO systems often get clogged by waste, making them costly and hard to maintain. Excitingly, advancements in RO technology could solve this problem. New membranes have been designed to resist clogging, leading to less frequent cleaning, lower costs, and more reliable water purification. Such improved systems enable industries to rely on a steady supply of clean water without depleting our precious freshwater resources. They also use less energy and produce less waste. In short, enhanced RO technology could lead to significant environmental and economic benefits, making it a crucial area of interest in water tech today. #Wastewater #WaterSustainability #ReverseOsmosis #WastewaterTreatment #PBJEngineering

Did you know? By improving wastewater treatment efficiency globally, we could save enough clean water to supply 500 million people with drinking water for a year! At Water MiniLab, our advanced automated systems ensure precise monitoring and optimization of water treatment processes. Here's how it works: our technology minimizes the need for excessive chemicals and energy, leading to substantial water conservation. Each liter of water saved through efficient treatment can potentially provide daily drinking water for one person. Consider this: on average, a single person needs about 2-3 liters of drinking water per day. With billions of liters of wastewater treated daily worldwide, the savings from optimized processes could meet the daily drinking water needs of millions of people. This not only helps address global water scarcity issues but also reduces the environmental footprint of water treatment plants. Imagine the global impact if all treatment plants adopted these technologies. Not only would we save enough water to support 500 million people, but we'd also contribute to a healthier environment by reducing pollution and conserving natural resources. Vice President Specialty Coatings & Materials @ PPG I Board Member I Driving sustainable innovations to enable our customers to win
August is National Water Quality Month which brings to focus the critical importance of global water scarcity. According to World Resources Institute data, nearly a quarter of the world’s population experiences high water stress, often depleting almost all their accessible water resources. By 2050, that number is predicted to increase by one billion. While we all can contribute with our daily habits, to preserve life as we know it and our natural ecosystems, an urgent need exists for advancing mass water reuse capabilities along with efficient purification and filtration techniques aimed at producing higher-quality water. As we consider the importance of water quality, I wanted to highlight an article in Wastewater Digest that my colleague Lisa Walters authored this year. Lisa explores how high-performance ultrafiltration membranes and filter elements process industrial water so it can be safely reused. This type of advanced technology was designed to reduce water waste, safely treating water to be reused and leave more water available for agriculture, freshwater consumption, and biodiversity. #WaterQuality #ReduceWaterWaste
