⚡ Microgrids are paving the way for more resilient local communities while advancing the nation’s energy system, according to Matthew Goss, PE, PMP, CEM, CEA, CDSM, LEED AP. The #microgrid model represents a network of diverse power sources that serve a neighborhood, campus or community. Microgrids harness the power of local resources, utilizing a range of fuels for efficient energy distribution. Communities blessed with abundant sunlight and strong winds, for instance, can integrate solar panels and wind turbines into their microgrid. Additionally, the use of wastewater treatment, biomass, waste-to-energy, and landfill operations can generate both heat and power, contributing to the community's energy independence and sustainability. These systems have been widely implemented throughout Europe and are gaining traction elsewhere around the world. U.S. communities have been slower to adopt the microgrid concept, mainly due to readily available low-cost energy sources in the U.S., such as natural gas and electricity. "We must not let these short-term challenges prevent U.S. municipalities from benefitting from microgrid systems," Matt says. See microgrids in your future? Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eZQ_FT3w
