I had a intern who taught me this September 1st a few years back, he walked into my office with 2 blank pieces of paper, handed one to me and said: “Today we need to set our New Resolutions, so they are successful” And it worked! September is a month of transition, we are programmed from nursery school to shake off summer and hopefully energized from the break, longer days, warmer nights, be ready to embark on something new But keep it simple: - Carve out time for clarity: Go for a walk, “sit” with your thoughts, process them and then block out a power hour to put pen to paper - Re-evaluate priorities: Focus on max-impact goals and drop whatever takes up space on the list for no good reason - Ask yourself: ‘What key actions do you want to achieve by the end of 2024 to make it a wholesome year & what can I add-on for 2025?’ - Link each goal to a Why: Why does it matter to you, what will change in your life if your achieve this? - Initiate action: Take even the smallest step in the moment to set the goal in motion Productive energy is in the air. Thursday thoughts: It’s been a looong time since I was the “new kid” at work, and it’s been an even looonger time since I was a summer intern. As the olde…, um, most seasoned intern in the Omaha metro area, here’s what I’ve learned after six weeks: 1. I don’t know anything, and that’s OK. It’s kind of a relief because I was the veteran teacher who (allegedly) knew everything. 2. Working 8-5 is an adjustment. It’s very different from teaching from 8-3:30. 3. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. 4. You belong there. They wouldn’t have hired you if they didn’t think you could do the job and were a good fit for the office. 5. Welcome and seek out feedback. 6. Ask for projects and additional work if you find yourself with an empty inbox. 7. Identify and cultivate relationships with potential mentors. 8. It’s OK to sit back and just observe for awhile. You have to warm up to the others in the office just as they have to warm up to you. 9. Learn people’s names and call them by their name. (This is an old Dale Carnegie trick) 10. You’re going to make mistakes. Take responsibility for them, fix them if possible, and learn from them.

Plus, it’s the best time to socialize, network, and make friends. Join now, or you might miss out on the next big event where you could meet your future boss or best friend! Procrastinating on Assignments: Start assignments early to avoid last-minute stress and improve the quality of your work. I learned the hard way that procrastination is the thief of sleep—if I had started earlier, I might have saved at least five dozen hours of precious snooze time. Just wrapped up the Fall semester of Grad School, and guess what? It’s officially nap season! My top priority? REST. Seriously, I’m a professional at doing THE MOST, and it’s been glorious learning how to do THE LEAST! 🤣 I do A LOT y’all and I’m blessed to be able to do it all! B-schools are gearing up for summer placements, and it took me back to my own experience. Let me be real—it wasn’t smooth at all. I spent a solid month with 𝗻𝗼 shortlists—Zero. Zip. Nada. Not even from the companies I dreamed of working for. The #FOMO was 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭. Eventually, I started getting shortlists in digital marketing (where I had experience), but I still couldn’t convert. It was brutal. A friend of mine was going through the same turmoil. When she finally got into a company she wanted, I asked her how she cracked it. Her answer? “Treat the company like your girlfriend.” I laughed at it first—who wouldn’t? As silly as it sounded, she was actually right. What does a girlfriend expect? Undivided attention, even with distractions around, right? Turns out, companies want that too. They want to feel like they’re the 𝘰𝘯𝘦—the most important choice on your list, even if there are 50 others around. It’s not about how qualified you are; it’s about how much 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 you give them. This reminded me of a story I read. 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗻 (Eastman Kodak Company) needed chairs for his theater. 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗺𝘀𝗼𝗻, head of Superior Seating, didn’t pitch his product first. Instead, he complimented Eastman’s room, chairs, and his taste in architecture. They talked for over an hour, with Adamson 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 appreciating Eastman’s work. Guess what? He walked away with a $90,000 contract!! So, I took the same approach. In just one week after my friend got placed, I did too.
