📍 "In construction, we don’t just work with concrete and steel, but with hope and dreams.” - Jackie Jackson At its core, construction is about more than just building structures. It's about creating spaces where people can live, work, and thrive. Every project begins with a vision, a dream of what can be, and through dedication and skill, we transform that vision into reality. Substrata’s commitment goes beyond the materials we use - it’s about fostering communities, enhancing lives, and building a better future. Each brick laid, each beam erected, is a step towards making dreams come true. 🏘️✨ Join us on this journey of transforming hope into tangible results. This piece of wood is very meaningful. We have to develop the site and couldn’t maintain one tree. - We ended up felling that one tree, - drinking all the flowers on the tree as tea, - cutting the truck into planks and turning the planks into furniture. - I got to hand sand some of the sharp corners to make the table suitable for public use last week. I may not get to keep the tree alive but I maintain the carbon on site. We learned a lot throughout the process about #recycle and #upcycle. We hope more clients can adapt this cradle to cradle method. Avoid Obvious Architects

🛠️Why is demolition day the best day for a property developer? 1. Fresh Start: Demolition day clears the slate, making way for new, modern, and profitable developments without the constraints of existing structures. 2. Unleashing Creativity: Demolition day is the first step in transforming a vision into reality, allowing developers to bring innovative designs and concepts to life without limitations. 3. Visible Progress: There’s no better feeling than seeing instant, visible progress. Demolition is the first big leap from plans on paper to tangible change on-site. 4. Potential into Profit: It's the turning point where you convert underused or rundown spaces into valuable, high-demand real estate, maximising the potential of the land. Steel prices may have dropped a bit, but don’t get it twisted – that’s not the main factor when it comes to developing Flex spaces. The real cost driver? Concrete. It’s the most expensive part of the build. We always aim for cost-effective projects, but if it means paying a little extra to nail the perfect design, we’re all in. A great-looking building that fits the vision is what makes the investment worth it. 💪 🔗 Link in bio to learn more! #FlexSpace #RealEstateDevelopment #HamzaInvests

How do we construct projects that will flow with the beauty of the natural landscape & surroundings? Conducting site visits, understanding the client’s vision, choosing the right building materials, and partnering with experienced architects and design teams are all factors that push the construction project towards success! We recently incorporated natural building materials harvested from the fields in which a project was nestled. The adaptive reuse project included preserving a wall made of local field stone that was collected from the building’s surroundings. #construction #building #adaptivereuse #reuse #construct

Wow- at least 270 people came to EH Smith Architectural Solutions Design Centre last night for “Sustainability in Brickwork a Bricklayers Perspective” from Lyons & Annoot Ltd. The entire team are truly humbled that so many people joined us for an event that when I originally imagined it would get maybe 50 people register never mind turn up. I say at least 270 it’s because I gave up counting- others reckoned it had exceeded the 300 mark and by quite a lot, but I never was the best surveyor 😉 Our industry is one of tradition and heritage but one that can also fight climate change by working together. We spoke about the need to fight greenwashing- when somebody states up to x% saving then calculate what was to be used and then provide accurate savings- we need to knock lazy low carbon out of what we do. We need to be honest with our products and our figures and our industry together to make it stand the test of time. We have said this when we have worked with our supply chain continue to be accurate with your figures. We had some of the most knowledgeable technical people in our industry speak to the audience- thank you Andy Oram, Sarah Le Gresley, Owen Gallagher, Emily Landsborough, Mathew Davies and Alexis Harrison for your time, your honesty and your experience! The positive feedback we had at the end of the event was this felt like industry working together! As anyone knows this is how I feel when it comes to this and when it comes to training we work together we get better results. The launch of Circulabrick was really well received. Conversations afterwards and strings to the bow that I didn’t know existed 5 minutes before. More on this will follow. I want to thank everyone for attending and for everyone who participated. For the fantastic questions that were asked of everybody afterwards and the great feedback. We truly are humbled- and I did loose my nervousness right there at the end 🤣 #brickwork #sustainability #bricklaying #bricks #futureproofing #traditional #construction Porotherm UK Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC Plasmor Ltd Ibstock Plc Vandersanden Arup Construction Enquirer Construction News Focused Construction News Construction Wave Architects’ Journal

Please agree that in a setting like this, you wouldn't be so sad to miss a flight. 🕊️ 🦚 ☘️ 🍀 and if you do, I assume, you would catch up with your breath faster 🌿 "The curvilinear installation is defined by a “forest” of open lattice structure slats that give way to concave recesses, which allows an ample amount of natural light to filter through."ZGF Architects Design Milk #airportdesign #timberconstruction #masstimber #ecoconstruction #carbonpositive

Creating meaningful housing spaces requires more than simply building structures - it demands thoughtful design that responds to environmental and social needs. For our Mapsko Group Mountville project, the design began with identifying challenges unique to the site, such as the arid climate and community needs. The introverted courtyard planning of the residential towers, combined with thick plantation, creates a cooling microclimate within the development. This conscious integration of natural elements offers a refreshing contrast to the harsh regional conditions. Site circulation was another critical focus, and by minimising intersections between pedestrian and vehicular movement, the design ensures residents' safety and ease of access. The built mass and landscape balance materiality and geometry, with modular planning making the project adaptable and cost-efficient. In projects like this, the design schematic fostered a connected community and a response to environmental challenges. At GPM Architects and Planners, we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, creating spaces that meet the functional needs of residents and elevate their quality of life. #UrbanDesign #HousingSolutions #ClimateResponsiveArchitecture #CommunityDesign #GPMArchitects
