Deployable warfighting technologies AFSFC is fielding in 2024 include the quad copter-Teal 2 sUAS and Red Air Cell training system. ➡ The Teal 2 sUAS compliments the larger Puma UAS system and gives security forces Defenders a lightweight, easy-to-operate vertical take-off and landing system they can carry and launch quickly to provide local area overwatch and situational awareness. Was a HIMARS strike successful in knocking out a $100m Russian radar? Footage released earlier this week shows a Shark UAS flying 70km behind enemy lines and finding a NEBO-SVU radar system. It then coordinates a HIMARS strike on the deployed system. So why is this a big deal? First, large surveillance and air defense radars are a key component to the air defense architecture for Russia. In modern warfare, this kind of radar is often the first to warn of approaching air threats. Second, the price to build a system reaches from the high tens of millions of dollars to a widely reported $100m. Furthermore, the technological complexity required for production combined with the state of the Russian military-industrial complex (especially given embargo on Western electronic components) means the replacement cost is far greater than just a number. #dronewars

This might look like an armed UGV…but it’s actually a red flag. Thailand is a smaller regional defence force, with a modest budget, but here they are as an early adopter committing to a capability enhancement technology that is clearly going to have a place in every nations force structure in coming years. I’m sure Thailand know that this system won’t be right for every tactical situation and it won’t replace their soldiers on the battlefield anytime soon. What it does represent is a calculation and a realisation that small militaries are going to need to “get smart or get out”. The modern battlespace is a complex arena and an increasingly dangerous place for pink, squishy humans. There is a move towards all sorts of systems and platforms that don’t place personel in harms way. If the conflict in Ukraine is any guide…we can expect unmanned systems use to grow exponentially. The ADF is trialing several systems for a variety of roles. That process will run its course. Hopefully we will see some of these platforms entering ADF service soon, in large numbers. The trick with this sort of force structure transition is to bring the local defence industry with you. It’s going to be slow and expensive. After all, it takes a much, much larger (and very different) industrial base to support a “robot army”.

"Crews of T-80 tanks and operators of combat drones of the 1st Army Corps have helped the advance of assault groups from the battlegroup South in the Donetsk area of the special military operation," the ministry said in a statement. According to the ministry, tank crews and unmanned aerial vehicle operators of the 1st Army Corps every day perform missions to provide firepower support to assault units from the battlegroup South and destroy enemy infantry in strongpoints, as well as help the operation of armored vehicles that use trawls to clear the way for assault groups. What form must you fill out to declare Jihad on a magazine? First, "Simple Flying" magazine lists the vaunted RC-135/RIVET JOINT as an "Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft." That alone would require an entire case of whiskey to atone for at Offutt, Waddington, Mildenhall or Kadena. Then, the author puts the vaunted RC-135 BELOW the E-3 and the A-Freakin'-50. I know the Air Force must have a form for Jihad Declaration. Can anyone help? Methinks they should change the name of that magazine to "Simpleton Flying." #ALONEANDUNARMED
