The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities has for the first time issued guarantees of origin (GoO) for electricity produced from renewable energy sources. USAID ESP provided expert and technical assistance to create a national register of GoOs. Project experts continue to provide assistance for the recognition and the possibility of circulation of Ukrainian guarantees of origin in the European Union, said Oleksandr Martyniuk during a meeting of the Energy Union on the prospects for using GoOs. “We are currently analyzing the protocol on the compliance of our registry with EU requirements. This is not a quick procedure, but we have to complete it successfully because Ukraine meets the basic criteria: physical synchronization of networks, a competitive electricity market, a legal framework for issuing, using and terminating the guarantee of origin, and an appointed registry administrator - in our case, the Regulator,” Martyniuk said. “I think we will manage it, and our guarantees will be successfully selling abroad. This can add up to 5-6% to the cost of Ukrainian “green” electricity.” Martyniuk also noted that in the future it is necessary to create preconditions to stimulate the circulation of GoOs, such as the possibility of exporting to foreign markets, selling in Ukraine to those companies that want to be “green”, and implementing initiatives that will increase the demand for “green” electricity in Ukraine. #NetZero #GreenRecovery #Ukraine #EnergySecurity

🌱On October 22, Ukraine held the first auction of guarantees of origin (GoOs) for electricity generated from renewable energy sources. 📊A total of 28,257 GoOs were purchased by 12 Ukrainian companies and each cost $.315/1 megawatt hour (MWh) (equivalent to UAH 13 ). According to the Government of Ukraine’s recent assessment, 1 MWh of electricity is equal to 1,232.84 kilograms of CO2 emissions. 🌏Consequently, the sale of 28,257 GoOs could help reduce CO2 emissions of the Ukrainian manufacturing sector, support the transition to a low carbon economy, and help to achieve climate change goals. 👉GoOs are electronic certificates that verify a specific amount of electricity was produced from renewable sources. This ensures transparency in the energy market, allows consumers to trust the green origin of the electricity they purchase, and is key to enabling Ukraine to export renewable energy and Ukrainian businesses to export other commodities to Europe (due to the pending Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism). 🤝USAID ESP provided extensive technical assistance, created the electronic national registry for GoOs, certified its compliance with European standards, and conducted training of market participants. Recently, ESP experts addressed Ukrainian businesses on the benefits of buying GoOs and the next steps to enter the European market. USAID ESP welcomes ongoing collaboration with Ukrainian partners to enable the full cross-border trade of renewables with European markets. #GreenRecovery #Decarbonization #Ukraine #Energy

Russia discusses rise in electricity supplies to China considering situation in Far East Apart from issues of electricity trade, the participants of the meeting discussed preparations to the upcoming Russian-Chinese intergovernmental commission, as well as acknowledgement of systems of certification of electric energy origin MOSCOW, July 17/ Russia and China have discussed a possible increase in electricity supplies to China considering growth of consumption in the Far East, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement following a meeting of the Russian-Chinese working group on cooperation in the area of electricity and renewable energy sources. Apart from issues of electricity trade, the participants of the meeting discussed preparations to the upcoming Russian-Chinese intergovernmental commission, as well as acknowledgement of systems of certification of electric energy origin, the so-called green certificates. "Organization of the process of issuance and application of green certificates of electric energy origin in Russia and China will facilitate further mutual acknowledgement of electricity certification systems between our countries," the ministry said. In 2023, Inter RAO, the only operator of export and import of electricity in Russia, reduced supplies to China to 3.1 bln kWh from record 4.6 bln kWh in 2022. Currently electricity is supplied to China with limitations as well. Inter RAO Executive Board member Alexandra Panina said earlier that deliveries to China might decrease to 1 bln kWh. #business #finance #financialservices

The world is switching to alternative energy sources, and there is no Аlternative to this so far. Our Earth's climate needs clean energy, such as solar and wind energy. In this regard, a number of commercial entities have been registered in Ukraine with a focus on solar and wind energy. At the beginning of the project, foreign investors oriented the Ukrainian side to the western regions of Ukraine, where the risks of military operations are lower, and therefore most projects are being developed in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions. Ukraine's energy system will soon be fully integrated into the EU energy system. In this regard, Ukraine's tariffs and legislation are currently being adapted to the EU legislation.

As we look to the future of energy in Ireland, the outlook presents both challenges and opportunities. With the EU taking decisive steps to reduce its reliance on Russian gas, Ireland must also prepare for this transition. While Ireland currently receives most of its gas from the UK, we are still connected to the broader European gas market, meaning geopolitical shifts will have an impact on us too. The EU is ready for the upcoming changes, with Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy stating, “there are no excuses, the EU can live without this Russian gas.” By 2025, the EU plans to manage a “zero-transit” scenario from Russia, thanks to alternative supply routes like increased LNG imports and enhanced infrastructure. This is a crucial moment for Ireland to diversify energy sources and look toward renewables like wind and renewable gas 🌱. For Irish businesses, this evolving landscape may lead to fluctuating energy costs, making it more important than ever to have expert guidance. As energy brokers, we’re here to help you navigate these shifts, secure competitive deals, and prepare for the future of energy supply.
