Founder and Managing Partner at Celesta Capital

I have made several big bets on India over the past 25 years of my career as a technology executive and investor. When we set up our deep tech venture firm Celesta Capital in 2013, we were looking for investments in India from Day One. At that time, few other investors were pursuing deep tech within India and it was difficult to find promising companies. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of a robust ecosystem of experienced tech entrepreneurs who had built consequential global businesses. Without this, we met a lot of founders who were not tackling big problems in those days. We saw many companies developing what I would call *evolutionary rather than *revolutionary products. This has now changed significantly. A lot of this shift has been spurred along by companies such as AgniKul Cosmos, GalaxEye, ideaForge, Tonbo Imaging and others. These relatively early pioneers in their various sectors are developing products that solve big problems, not just in India, but around the world. These don't look like other companies anywhere else in the world. In an entrepreneurial ecosystem, if you see some people tackling big problems and experiencing success, it is infectious. Most of these founders are young, aggressive, and exuberant, and they move forward with First Principles thinking. Today, I believe India is well-positioned to grow into a deep tech hub for decades to come. I have followed the transition in India more closley based on the insihhys shared by you ever the years. This has taken me to pau close attention to India's Industial and Technology policies. I have come to appreciate and to share in the optimism that you have long espoused on the positioning of India as technology 'Hub'. Lessons for CARICOM, now occupies my attention as would serve the Caribbean Community well to find a 'playing the global technology dynamsics, with India as a major force. Will be discussing these thoughts with you further. As usual thanks for the perspectives and keep them coming.

Nicholas Brathwaite Such an insightful reflection on India’s evolving deep tech landscape!  It’s inspiring to see how the entrepreneurial ecosystem has transformed, with companies like AgniKul Cosmos and ideaForge leading the charge. The shift from evolutionary to revolutionary thinking is exactly what India needs to compete on the global stage. The combination of young, dynamic founders and a growing ecosystem is setting the stage for India to become a powerhouse in deep tech.  I would love to hear more about your thoughts on what specific steps India can take to further nurture this ecosystem.  Looking forward to the continued conversation!

Extremely insightful! Thanks much for these very informative insights into India's 🇮🇳 evolutionary tech future. They are indeed set to become, (if not already) one of the world's most dominant and sought after Tech/AI superpowers.

I love this Nic. Your decIsion to invest in the dreams of others is making a difference in the lives of others. Your admonition to tackle "big problems" is most encouraging. All the best to you and your family. Your friend, Ben
