What does everyone think the pathway into Cybersecurity is? (I know loaded question and hyper discipline specific...) Personally I don't think Cybersecurity is easy to come into cold and the people I have met that are truly impactful cross trained into the space. ICS = Engineers / Operators / E&I Cloud = Software Engineers Forensics = LEOs and D&D Dungeon Masters Security Ops = Help Desk / System Admins Security Architects = System Admin / IT generalist Intel = Seems like everyone was in the Miltary or Gov By no means a hard and fast rule, but just something I have been thinking about when people ask me how to get into Cyber Security and I don't have a really good answer. What are y'alls stories?

Based on job postings on Indeed, LinkedIn, and remote job websites, the following cybersecurity roles are consistently in high demand: 1. Cybersecurity Analyst: This role involves identifying, analyzing, and responding to security threats. 2. Information Security Manager: Responsible for overseeing an organization's overall cybersecurity strategy. 3. Network Security Engineer: Focuses on securing computer networks and systems. 4. Penetration Tester: Simulates attacks on systems to identify vulnerabilities. 5. Cloud Security Engineer: Protects cloud-based infrastructure and data. What else can you add?

Information Security Officer I align business & security strategies to reduce risk & improve efficiencies in global enterprises | Risk Assessment & Mitigation | Cyber Security | Relationship Management | Advising
This absolutely hits me hard. We want the perfect candidate right out of the gate because everything we do is so important. We want someone with loads of experience, at a cheap rate who will be passionate about everything we do because what we do is special. Except we aren’t really that special. The best cyber professionals are the ones that I can train because they already have the passion and grit. I can teach you tech; I can’t teach you character. Note to other leaders - our quest for perfection is tripping us up. While we are in a constant GOTO 10 loop of posting and reposting positions, we’re burning out our current staff, and proving to our friends in HR that we really don’t need those roles because we are proving that the business can get by.
I'm a reformed black hat hacker who has contributed to 100+ bug bounty programs, and I ghostwrite for cybersecurity teams.
Cybersecurity #1: We need more people to fill jobs. Where are they? Cybersecurity #2: Sorry, not you. You don't have CISSP and 10 years of experience. We can't hire you.

Security Recruiter & Founder @ Cyber Spring | Connecting CISOs & Consultancies with the best Security & GRC Talent
What makes a good Security Engineer... 🤔 When I first started recruiting in Cyber Security 12 years ago, a lot of the Security Engineer roles we worked on were predominantly covering Network Security, Infrastructure or SIEM - Basically on-prem technologies. We've seen a real shift in what companies are looking for when hiring for Security Engineers and nowdays skills such as Cloud Security, Programming Experience, Application Security and other similar skills are the most in-demand due to a huge shift-left, not only in start-ups but also in larger companies making those changes. Whilst the desired skills seem to be changing, I think what makes a good Security Engineer is their ability to learn new skills and technologies and be flexible about new ways of working that better align to business objectives.
