We were honoured to host the First Minister of Wales at CELSA Steel UK, where we showcased our world-class operations. Our #LowCarbon, #Circular reinforced bar plays a vital role in nationally significant infrastructure projects, from HS2 to Hinkley Point C—underscoring our commitment to driving the transition to a decarbonised economy. The visit, however, highlighted a pressing challenge: soaring electricity prices. These costs prevented us from demonstrating our Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), a cornerstone of sustainable steelmaking. Competitive electricity prices are essential for the long-term viability of our industry and its critical role in achieving the UK’s net-zero ambitions. That said, we were proud to showcase our Rod & Bar Mill in action. This facility not only produces reinforced steel but also supports emerging opportunities in the offshore wind sector and port infrastructure development. These advancements present a significant chance for Wales to lead in the #GreenEnergy revolution while supporting critical infrastructure growth. With the announced change of ownership on the horizon, CELSA Steel UK, under the new ownership of Sev.en Global Investments, is ready to embark on an exciting new chapter. We are committed to strengthening our position as a cornerstone of the UK’s industrial base, while continuing to support Wales’ economy through #Innovation, #Sustainability, and the direct employment of over 1100 people in Wales. We extend our gratitude to the First Minister for engaging in productive discussions about these challenges and opportunities. Together, we can build a resilient, low-carbon steel industry that drives sustainable growth for Wales and the UK. #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #UKSteel #CircularEconomy #EnergyTransition

UK’s biggest infrastructure firms commit to phase out fossil fuels! 👏 The six biggest infrastructure companies in the UK have set phase-out dates for fossil fuel use. Anglian Water, Heathrow, Lower Thames Crossing, National Highways, Northumbrian Water and Sellafield have signed up to the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Five Client Carbon Commitments towards achieving net zero. These companies are expected to invest tens of billions into UK infrastructure over the next decade. The pledges cover the largest-emitting areas in infrastructure delivery, including ending the use of diesel on construction sites (by transitioning to alternative energy sources such as diesel replacements, green hydrogen, and electric-powered plant) and shifting to the lowest-carbon sources of concrete and steel > https://ow.ly/1X2o50RsjYw #Construction #Contractors #Infrastructure #FossilFuels #Concrete #Steel #LowCarbon #NetZero

One of the most clear and straightforward strategies I've seen: "The Five Client Carbon Commitments" have just been published in the UK. Procure for low carbon construction and provide incentives in our contracts Set phase out dates for fossil fuel use Eliminate the most carbon intensive concrete products Eliminate the most carbon intensive steel products Adopt PAS 2080, Carbon Management in Infrastructure, as a common standard I'm super excited to help drive this kind of ambition in Australia, too! https://lnkd.in/eHSeyca2

Generate is proud to support the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) micro-mill through a secured loan to reinforced steel contractor Pacific Steel Group. The new mill will significantly reduce the emissions of rebar used in California and nearby states. Generate’s investment in PSG enables steel production that is both sustainable and cost competitive. The mill will incorporate multi-technology sustainability solutions to lower its emissions and environmental footprint with project economics that eliminate the green premium. California’s devastating wildfires highlight the critical need for climate resilience and sustainable rebuilding. This project is about more than producing green steel — it’s about paving the way for a future where our infrastructure reflects our commitment to combating climate change and rebuilding communities sustainably. We are very excited to partner with PSG on this transformative project. Learn more about our investment: https://lnkd.in/g5mWEjj5

2024 roundup - January 📅🌱 We started the year off strong with the achievement of our new step in lowering the CO2e emissions of our aluminium profiles. We're able to confirm with an independently verified EPD that the Hydro CIRCAL 75R aluminium we use for all of our products as standard in the UK contains just 1.9 CO2e emissions per kg of aluminium (compared to 2.3kg CO2e/kg of Al). With every step towards decarbonisation we take, we are lowering the environmental impact the building and construction market has on the planet.

This is Scope 3 emissions reporting in action... Lang O'Rourke has set emissions limits on its concrete. Perhaps (finally) we will see #greencrete get a foothold in the Australian #builtenvironment. I like that they've made their carbon limits public too, for example 50MPa concrete can have no more tha 300kgCO2 per sq metre. Now I would just like to see all the WA government agencies requiring the same as part of their tendering processes, or at least giving tenderers with these types of requirements "bonus points" in their assessments to award contracts. #scope3 Laing O'Rourke sets carbon limits for Australian procured concrete | Laing O’Rourke (https://lnkd.in/gNCpjY2e)
