If January didn't go as planned or start with the bang and progress you hoped for, don't fret. It's time to throw out social norms around busyness and reprioritize in 2025.

Good day to you all, Tomorrow is a significant event where we'll hear from the candidates running for President of the United States. Although the election isn't until November, this is our chance to understand their visions. Reflecting on JFK’s timeless message, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country,” I want to share a thought-provoking idea that impacts our collective well-being. Consider the saying, "There is no measure of sanity to be well-adjusted to an insane society." This challenges us to question the norms and values that define mental and societal health. Simply fitting into societal standards doesn’t always mean we’re truly sane or healthy, especially if those standards are flawed. In a world where societal pressures shape our actions and beliefs, it’s crucial to adopt a mindset that questions these norms and seeks ways to improve our collective experience. True intelligence might lie in discerning which norms to challenge and which to uphold. By thinking beyond mere conformity, we can live more meaningful lives and contribute positively to our communities. Sharing this perspective, I hope to inspire critical thinking about the values we accept and the changes we want to see in society. Let’s strive for awareness that balances compassion with critical thinking, fostering a society that values genuine well-being. I look forward to your thoughts on how we can shape a more thoughtful and inclusive world. You have the choice to be part of an insane society or a harmonious one. Which vision do you choose? The moment is now because, as the saying goes, “tomorrow is not promised to know one.

Speed Matters. Organizations face growing pressure from consumers and stakeholders to take public stances on sociopolitical issues, yet many struggle with how to do so without appearing inauthentic. Research shows that consumers treat firm response time to issues differently — as an informative cue of the firm’s commitment to any event. When engaging in activism, organizations should consider the timing of their statements as well as the divisiveness of the issue in order to clearly articulate a message that aligns with their values. https://lnkd.in/gA8-sJry

The uncomfortable truth: Most environmental campaigning is surprisingly ineffective. Instead of reaching for a bigger megaphone or a more headline grabbing policy, our powerful Eco Mindsets segmentation reveals how organisations can encourage real pro-environment behaviour change… If that’s what your organisation wants to do, talk to us - we’d love to share these insights.

Why #Quality and #Politics are More Connected Than You Think—And Why It Matters - My musings for today..... 🌍 World Quality Day Reflection: The Politics of Quality 🌍 Today, I’m not talking about “Quality” with a capital Q. I’m talking about *quality* as a practice—how our everyday choices impact those around us, for better or worse. On a day dedicated to quality, I’m reflecting on over two decades in this field, and I’m struck by one powerful realization: quality and politics are more intertwined than we often acknowledge. We navigate politics every day, not just at the ballot box. #Quality —and the risk that comes with it—is the same. How we choose to act, decide, and vote reflects what we value and shapes the world around us. For the 53% of white women who voted for policies that can feel like a threat to my loved ones and me, you don’t have to hide that choice from me. Let’s talk about it. Understanding each other’s perspectives might be uncomfortable, but it’s essential. Quality, in its truest sense, is rooted in understanding, accountability, and the courage to engage openly. This World Quality Day, let's push past the comfort zones, question what quality really means, and consider its impact on the lives around us. #WorldQualityDay #QualityCulture #DigitalTransformation #RiskManagement #Accountability #Inclusion #Transparency #OpenDialogue #ISPE Excerpt from my Medium article below: "On #WQD,World Quality Day, I'm not here to talk about 'Quality' with a capital Q. I'm talking about #quality in its simplest form—how our choices reflect our values and impact those around us. We can't separate politics from our work or lives, nor can we ignore the constant presence of risk. For those voting in ways that affect my rights, I don't need you to keep it a secret. Let’s talk about it. Do we really know where each of us stands? Click to explore the intersections of quality, risk, and the choices shaping our world." #HLWFAlliance Chief

We have become intolerant of difference. minimal-you.com I lifted, and adapted, the following riff from my [as yet] unpublished book 'Memes'. We live in a mind-bubble of 'sameness'. We think the same. We claim we want the same things – we want 'social justice' and yet we have no idea how to deliver it. We promote the same political agendas for government, media, education, workplaces, the arts, sports, etc. We have become robots. We are driven by our shared 'fear' of difference. We have become intolerant of difference. We scorn deviants. We shun misfits. And... We protect 'conformity'. We are frightened by our own shadow. We are a non-thinking species. We are too predictable to survive. We are inept at 'social evolution'. Social evolution on Earth has stalled due to 'the breakdown of trust' between people of all creeds. Trust between individuals, tribes, and communities has been the key to social progress. However... Today there is a concerted effort being mounted to replace trust with rules. Life today is governed by rules not by trust. This is not a sustainable human condition. Orwell warned us about the dangers that lie hidden in this approach to our future. Perhaps. We need a worm-hole that can transport us into a very different future [see photo]. Richard

The metaphor underscores the importance of fostering inclusivity, empathy, and understanding as integral components of the “fast car” that will drive America toward a brighter future. Whether through educational reforms, economic policies, or social programs, the need for speed in implementing changes that dismantle systemic issues is paramount.

The latest British Social Attitudes report, shows the past five years have had a profound impact on public opinion and that, as a result, the climate of public opinion facing the new government could well be a challenging one. Dear Clients and Friends, We share the shock that many of you are feeling reading the results of how our nation voted, tinged with dread, despair, anger, and many other less defined emotions. Today, none of us can be sure which of our fears will come true, which were just delusional campaign promises, or what else the next four years will bring. While this morning’s news is not what we hoped to wake up to, we affirm our steadfast commitment to one another in community, and in pursuit of creating a positive, long-lasting impact in the world. We will continue to use our voice to advocate for positive change and to encourage the companies we invest in to uphold and improve upon important social and environmental policies. Shareholder activism season is beginning in earnest now, and we are already engaging with several companies in discussions that have now taken on even greater significance. We will also continue to support our impact investment partners with catalytic capital to bolster our communities. We are committed to maintaining our long-term investment perspective and avoiding a reactive approach to the turmoil that will soon engulf Washington. Our responsibilities as fiduciaries to protect your assets will always be paramount. As for how to best weather the coming storm, we are grateful that smart, experienced people have been thinking about that question for the past couple years. We recommend this helpful piece from the folks at Waging Nonviolence: https://lnkd.in/eK4uUxbk. While the next few years are sure to be turbulent and uncomfortable, we know that we will come through them together, with our values unshaken. In solidarity, The Clean Yield Team
