A fantastic discussion on sustainability vs sunsetting a foundation. The same thinking applies for networks & coalitions. Providing an end date or goal can spur engagement and motivate partners towards success vs a perpetual network that never ends. Read: https://zurl.co/keAs

🌍 Earth Day: An appropriate day to share how we’re deepening our commitment to working on behalf of Earth 🌍 Here at Earthself we’re filled with glee to share our emerging strategy to integrate the development of Scotland’s first community food forest into our business model. We’re still waiting to share news of a partnership with you that’s helped inform our vision to not just create Scotland’s first community food forest a.k.a. Emiel’s Food Forest but also to: 🌍 Lead the Growth of Food Forests in Scotland To achieve our vision, we’ve created four key strategic objectives: 1. Secure Ongoing Funding This is going to be achieved through a combination of donating a % of all Earthself services to help maintain the food forest as well as identifying additional funding opportunities to help support the development of this project 2. Design SME Business Experiences The SMEs we speak to are enthusiastic and excited about the food forest and want to know how they can help so we’re going to co-create experiences that will enable them to become part of the project and help support the development of our other strategic objectives 3. Create Curriculums for Schools With Education Scotland’s Learning for Sustainability Target 2030 plan calling for collective action from society to help embed sustainable development into our education system, we’re going to ensure that Emiel’s Food Forest inspires students in both Scotland and other parts of the world (another exciting partnership opportunity coming soon). 4. Partner with Students Students are desperate for both sustainability driven projects and work experience to compliment their academic studies. In March we took part in the University of Stirling’s Business Lab day where a team of students took our initial idea for crowdfunding, poked holes in the plan and suggested a different approach This strategy has been developed since then by none other than the awesome Nurken Begali who has been working as the project developer following his participation in the Business Lab to create an actionable strategy that can be integrated into Earthself’s business model. We're also in process of bring more students onboard to help us realise this vision. Image: Has the goals and four objectives on it #naturepositive #netzero #earthday

💖👇🏼💖👇🏼💖👇🏼 Connect and catalyze change in honor of Suzanne Biegel and her life and legacy. Join a “Collective Action” conversation the week of Jan 29th and commit to catalyzing change in a meaningful way to you. Details below! ⬇️ #womenasagentsofchange #genderinvesting
Announcing: Catalyze Change, Collective Action Week (Jan 29th) *Celebrating Suzanne Biegel* ❤️👇🏻❤️👇🏻❤️ (Please reshare) As you are aware, our dear, inspiring, and indefatigable friend sailed away from us in September. Over the past and next six months, several events have been and will be held to honor her extraordinary life. Unfortunately, due to limited capacity, not everyone who cherished her can be invited to these in-person gatherings. This week is our way of providing a space online for anyone who wishes to celebrate her life. While we have focused on a week for ‘collective action’ Suzanne sits in our hearts always. You can read more about her extraordinary life here: https://lnkd.in/dVdxDuWT Suzanne was passionate about connecting people and catalyzing change. She would want to bring people together and encourage action, especially to bring awareness and engagement to Heading for Change, the fund she and her husband, Daniel Maskit, started to accelerate proven climate and biodiversity solutions with women as agents of change. You can read more about it and donate to the fund here https://lnkd.in/dh8UbuTy When The week of January 29th has been designated for this special celebration. If you would like to be part of the life celebration of Suzanne and commit to catalyzing change in some way, please sign up here. We will then organize people into small groups and provide instructions for those groups to self-organize their online catalytic celebrations of Suzanne. Sign Up and Share If you are moved, please sign up at https://lnkd.in/dw4Q_Gh9 and encourage all those you know to join. While you can self-organize, we prefer that everyone goes through the process so that serendipity can happen. Suzanne would have wanted it that way. For you all to get to meet new people! I feel so grateful to do the work I get to do in the world through OzGREEN. Last year, we delivered 90 events with over 2,500 participants to increase wellbeing, protect rivers, change habits, and change the world! Our programs connect people with nature, build sustainability skills, redirect waste from landfill, plant trees and collect citizen science data. AND we employ and support regional young people to deliver them! Because young people are the future. I'm not on delivery as much anymore after stepping into the Communications Manager role here, but when I do attend our events and experience the magic on the ground, it fuels me in the work that I do. riveryouthfest last April was a great example... It was a family-friendly tree planting festival targeting young people with live music, art and craft activities, games and food. It brought many, many community partners together around a shared goal. It gave young musicians a stage, some of them, for the first time. It attracted a very diverse audience and brought environmentalism to the general public with a really accessible way for people to give back to the planet and feel great. This optimises what we do. Our mission is to create sustainable communities. We work in really creative ways to: Connect communities. Increase wellbeing. Build capacity. And deliver action. We work strategically to create a ripple effect of social change. And we work with our partners to create events that people love. The change that is needed in regional communities to address the social and environmental challenges that we face is deep change. Deep change takes time. We can't wait to embark on next financial year's events but we cannot do it without you. If the work we do speaks to you at all, we ask, at this time of end-of-financial year, to donate and help support us on our mission to create sustainable communities. Donate now for our future. www.ozgreen.org/donate https://lnkd.in/gVkncXwj

Let’s face it. The challenges that we currently face – climate, biodiversity, food security, geopolitics, defence – are so enormous that they cannot possibly be addressed through conventional philanthropic channels alone. Steffen Pierini Lüders, Novo Nordisk Foundation and Steen Thomsen, Copenhagen Business School write on the role of enterprise foundations in addressing our greatest challenges! 🌍🌱 Exciting News! 🌱🌍 I'm thrilled to share that I'm diving back into the topic of sustainability, which I had to put on hold for a bit due to other priorities. Now, I'm joining the volunteer project "Habits for a Better World" organized by Karel Vredenburg, focusing on the impact of food systems on climate change. Yes, you heard right – while most discussions highlight fossil fuels, it's crucial to also address farming, land clearing, and the broader food system's role in climate change. For those who know me, the intersection of food and sustainability has always been a passion. During my master's, I researched this extensively and published a paper on scaling food systems through collaborative design. If interested, you can take a look at it here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dsFgt8jG Since joining IBM three years ago, I've channeled my energy into supporting various sustainability initiatives, including the Climanomics solution with Hodan Saeed and Claudia Dalla Torre, where we explored the impact of food on agriculture and climate change. Now, I'm bringing my passion and design skills to this new project, advocating for better habits and sustainable food systems. As a vegan, I promote a plant-based diet and believe in its potential to reduce our climate impact. Consider this: the total emissions from the food system rise to ~34%, with 16 million square kilometers of land used for crops and 34 million square kilometers for grazing animals. That’s 38% of Earth’s land surface! Animal agriculture alone uses around 29% of Earth’s land, while plant-based agriculture covers just 9%. Shifting even partially towards a plant-based diet can significantly lower our environmental footprint. Let’s make impactful changes together! Check with your 👀 ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dvue3h_H #Sustainability #ClimateChange #FoodSystems #PlantBased #BetterHabits #VolunteerProject 🌎💚
