Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN) Outstanding Pre-Feasibility Study For Victory Bore Vanadium Project 🔸 The Victory Bore Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) has been completed on time, and on-budget by METS Engineers, Snowden-Optiro and other key specialists. 🔸 An updated Mineral Resource of 465 Mt @ 0.30% V2O5, 5.1% TiO2 and 17.7% Fe (Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resources) was reported in accordance with the JORC Code (2012). 🔸 A maiden probable Ore Reserve of 93 Mt @ 0.35% V2O5, 5.2% TiO2 and 19.8% Fe was reported in accordance with the JORC Code (2012). 🔸 The operation will involve an optimal mining rate of 4 Mt/a of ore to produce approximately 1.25 Mt/a of high-grade magnetite concentrate to be processed into six end products. 🔸 Mining and magnetite concentration to occur at Victory Bore in Western Australia. Magnetite concentrates to be bulk shipped to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for downstream processing into final high value end products. 🔸 Mining will be by standard open cut methods: low strip ratio, drill and blast, load and haul. 🔸 Downstream processing will use traditional methods with modern applications and state of the art flow processing. 🔸 Processing in KSA has significant advantages with lower Operating and Capital Costs and close proximity to markets. The KSA Government has proposed downstream processing to be located in one of the industrial hubs specifically designated for Ferro-Alloy processing. The UAE ranked second globally in the number of greenfield FDI projects in 2023, with 1280 projects, trailing only behind the United States, which led with 1966 projects. The number of greenfield FDI projects in the UAE surged by 36% y/y, taking the UAE up three places in the global ranking from fifth in 2022. Dubai retained its position as the leading city in the number of greenfield FDI projects, surpassing Singapore and London, with 1036 projects, marking a 32% increase y/y. Abu Dhabi ranked 6th globally with 172 projects, showing a substantial 74% increase y/y. Notably, Dubai accounted for approximately 81% of the total number of projects in the UAE. Total FDI capital inflows into the UAE increased by 33% y/y to USD 15.08bn. Among the emirates, Dubai attracted the largest share of FDI capital inflows, amounting to USD 6.81bn. Despite only having 13% of the total number of projects in UAE, Abu Dhabi accounted for a significant share of the total FDI capital inflows with USD 4.48bn. Abu Dhabi had the biggest number of projects that exceeded the USD 200mn mark with eight projects while Dubai had five. Sharjah followed in third place with USD 2.75bn, with the bulk of the inflows coming from the India-based Infinite Mining & Energy investment in a new petroleum refinery in Hamriya Free Zone. Today, I had the privilege of attending an insightful seminar hosted by the Geological Engineering Department KNUST. The theme was "The Role of the Geological Engineer/Geologist in the Mining Industry," and it featured Mr. Prince Atta Impraim, a Production Geologist at Newmont Africa's Ahafo Kenyasi site. The seminar highlighted the indispensable contributions of geologists at every stage of the mining process. From the initial exploration to the final extraction, geologists play a crucial role in resource estimation, identifying mineral locations, and ensuring sustainable mining practices. They utilize advanced geological techniques to determine the quantity and quality of minerals, guiding mining operations to optimize efficiency and minimize environmental impact. One key takeaway was the importance of accurate resource estimation. Geologists employ various methods, including geological mapping and sampling, to locate mineral deposits. Their expertise ensures that mining companies have a clear understanding of the available resources, which is essential for planning and executing mining projects. This seminar underscored the critical role geologists play in driving the success of the mining industry. CANADÁ’S MKANGO SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH MALAWI GOVERNMENT - The Canadian miner is developing a rare earth project in the Southeast African country. Canadian mineral exploration and development company Mkango Resources has signed a mining development agreement (MDA) with the Malawi Government for its Songwe Hill rare earth project. Under the MDA, the government will provide the necessary infrastructure to enable mining activities in the area and Malawi in general. Establishing the necessary infrastructure, such as roads or railways, to transport raw materials from often remote mines to harbors for shipping presents a major cost factor in developing new mining projects. In return, the government will receive a five percent royalty of gross revenues and ten percent interest in the project, while Mkango will pay just a 30 percent corporate tax rate. According to Alexander Lemon, President of Mkango, the MDA is a “major milestone” for both the company and Malawi, adding that Songwe Hill would benefit the entire economy of the Southeast African country once operational. The company aims to mine neodymium, praseodymium, terbium, and dysprosium at Songwe Hill; all four rare earth elements are used to produce permanent magnets. Besides Songwe Hill, Mkango also holds multiple other mineral exploration projects in Malawi and wholly owns the magnet recyclers Hypromag and Mkango Rare Earths UK. EXPLORATION TO TEST SHALLOW COPPER PORPHYRY TARGETS AT BOULIA • The Boulia region has recently become an area of significant exploration interest for copper, gold and base metals, with large projects being undertaken by Anglo American, these tenements adjoin & lie to the east of the Green Critical Minerals exploration project • Interpretation suggests that the widespread mineralisation and veining observed in the area may be driven by porphyry intrusions, manifested as unexplained shallow magnetic bodies within the project area. • This interpretation has gained significant support from the Geoscience Australia Heavy Mineral Survey, which identified the regional maximum values of high-grade copper sulphide minerals chalcocite and bornite, as well as the aluminum sulphate mineral alunite. The chalcocite-alunite association is a strong indicator of the upper portions of porphyry copper deposits, further reinforcing GCM's exploration model. Additionally, a nearby sample site revealed enrichment in skarn minerals such as diopside, garnet, and wollastonite, lending credence to the potential presence of skarns under the alluvial cover. AUSTRALIA’S FIRST RARE EARTH REFINERY BEGINS PRODUCTION. First raw material from Mount Weld mine processed. The Australian mining group Lynas is starting the first steps in production at its domestic rare earth refinery. As the company announced, raw material from its Mount Weld mine has now been fed into the processing plant in Kalgoorlie in south-western Australia. Parallel to the ramp-up in Kalgoorlie, the mixed rare earth carbonate produced there will be shipped in stages next spring to the Lynas refinery in Malaysia for further processing. As we reported, the Malaysian government only extended the operating license in October. Initially, specific production steps were to be banned due to the slightly radioactive residues produced. According to Lynas, production in Malaysia is still suspended until January, as work is underway to increase capacity. With the construction of the refinery in Kalgoorlie, Lynas is driving forward a complete value chain for the critical minerals without the involvement of China, where most processing has taken place to date. The Group is already the most important producer of rare earths outside the People’s Republic.
