The survey results are in! Our 261 team members can say they work at one of The Dallas Morning News Top Workplaces D-FW! We ranked #43 (of mid-sized companies) on the list and it's our 5th year to place in the TOP 100. On the survey, employees are asked a series of questions, whether a statement is true and how important certain work-life qualities are. Some of the survey questions focused on whether employees feel appreciated, does the culture of the company encourages new ideas and different points of view, flexibility between work and home balance, and confidence in the company and management. #MondayMotivation CASE STUDY: Serving as Thought Leaders to Address Community Issues Research shows that in order to build a robust and resilient economy, communities need to invest in #QualityOfPlace. Communities that invest in Quality of Place see long-term benefits economically and at the individual and community level. Quality of Place is essential in attracting and retaining talent for community economic growth, especially due to the unique remote work trends seen during COVID-19. Our friends Welborn Baptist Foundation wanted to understand how Quality of Place impacts a community and their region. WBF focuses on funding community-transforming initiatives in southwest Indiana. They are constantly looking ahead at how to best serve the needs of their region to advance the mission of the organizations there. They hired TCG as a thought partner to help understand the research and importance of Quality of Place work especially related to Talent Attraction goals. What did we do? ✔️ Conducted research in order to identify trends and promising practices related to Quality of Place work. ✔️ Summarized our research in a white paper on Quality of Place, which can be used to build awareness, align initiatives underway, and support new investments that will improve Quality of Place in the Greater Evansville region to attract and retain talent! We are a great place to work – and that’s official! For the fourth year running, we have scored highly in the Great Place To Work survey, which is based on a model of Trust. Once again we significantly exceeded the required score, with 89 per cent of colleagues saying they were made to feel welcome when they joined the company, and three quarters saying they were encouraged to balance their work and home lives. 🤩 We are going to build on this even further. In exploring the intersection of workplace well-being and the human need for community, I stumbled across Austin's Community First! Village, and thought its principles provide a profound parallel to our corporate ecosystems. Our workplaces are more than just a physical space; they're a hub of human interaction and potential—akin to a village, where each member plays a part in the larger tapestry of collaboration and support. One of the insights from our recent Citizen Connections Report emphasizes that while people crave deeper connections, there's a "Connection Deficit" where actual engagement falls short of our desires. This reality in our social lives also mirrors the workplace, where despite daily interactions, employees can still feel disconnected. I wanted to share the example of Community First! Village, because the success highlights a powerful model of belonging where the chronically homeless find more than housing—they find a community. With 30% of us less likely to engage in meaningful conversations and 15% having lost friends due to polarization, it's clear we have something to learn from intentional communities about nurturing connections. Businesses stand at the forefront of this change. Nearly 90% of respondents from the Connections Report believe brands should tackle societal issues like mental health—meaning our offices aren't just places of work, but platforms for community support and engagement. IT makes me wonder,, how can we re-imagine our workplaces to reflect the solidarity and care found in Community First! Village? While the hybrid model provides convenience for many, when we are in the office, we have to consider spaces conducive to collaboration, initiatives for social engagement, and an inclusive culture that makes every team member feel like part of a supportive community. As many of us strive to figure out how to redesign corporate culture in this new relationship with the office, our focus has to be on fostering meaningful connections that alleviate loneliness and promote well-being. If the term “workplace” refers to "any place in which workers work," then as Workplace Professionals, we cannot ignore the need to support workers from among the Deskless Workforce. These workers do not sit behind a desk to do their job, and have often been mistakenly discounted as “non-knowledge workers” – even though many knowledge workers are also from the Deskless Workforce. Most of these workers are also the most frequent occupiers of our spaces, and the biggest users of our workplace services – therefore among our most important customers.
