Manatees are dying at an alarming rate: Declining seagrass has led to an ongoing mortality event — almost 20% of the entire Florida population perished in just two years. These gentle giants are starving to death. But there's hopeful news: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) recently proposed to protect nearly 2 million acres of critical habitat for manatees under the #EndangeredSpeciesAct. If the proposal is finalized, the Act's safeguards will ensure that #manatees will have warm, safe places to swim and eat seagrass for generations to come. But the proposal leaves important waterways unprotected. Join us in urging the Service to protect all the critical areas manatees need to recover — as soon as possible.➡️ https://bit.ly/4eADzuH
"If the proposal is finalized" ... is a big IF with January just around the corner
They are one of my favorite aquatic mammals ❤️
Nothing will change until people value native biodiversity over green grass lawns. The abuse of fertilizers in Florida is destroying water quality state wide
Good news
Without monitoring those areas with remote sensors and cameras - the efforts will not be recorded. We are here to support those efforts with a wave / solar powered solution to solve that very issue. Our work on creating food for manatees from CEA is ongoing. Love to help
It’s Manatee Awarness Month! I donated for the Manatees and signed the petition, today. And shared your Petition here on LinkedIn too!🪸: https://bit.ly/4eADzuH
🥲 So so sad to hear this. Pls pls protect these critical areas for manatees recovery.
It's really hard to breathe these days. LinkedIn is not the platform to share some of my feelings but these updates are devasting and disturbing on so many levels. I'm glad to continue to support your organization on a monthly basis-I'll leave it on that positive note. Sending my love to these amazing, gentle creatures who do not deserve this.
