This week we're seeing devastation across the West Coast caused by the deadly California wildfires -- in a wildfire season that is getting progressively longer each year. Our hearts are with the communities impacted. Working in the adaptation space, it's becoming clearer that these types of disasters are interconnected. Experts are saying that last year's atmospheric rivers, combined with record drought and heavy winds, had a huge impact on the wildfires that these communities are now struggling with. We don't need to draw a direct line from one disaster to the next to understand that proactive resilience policy should take into account the way disasters can overlap and cause loss and absolute devastation of whole communities. With disasters becoming stronger and more frequent, we need to radically transform adaptation policy to ensure communities are better prepared year round. https://lnkd.in/eGcyeZwb

There are four active wildfires burning along the Front Range in Colorado — all within about 70 miles of each other. While causes are under investigation, preexisting smoke, high temps, and high winds have posed a challenege to containment. 10,000 acres of land is ablaze. 4,000 people plus a further 575 homes are under mandatory evacuations, and there are numerous others under voluntary and pre-evacuation orders. 5 structures have been destroyed. At least 1 person is dead. There are a lot of folks displaced where I live tonight, and local businesses and residents are trying to come together to help. Other ways to support will be made available in the coming days, but if you know the on-the-ground impact wildfires have, I’ll drop some easy ways in the comments you can help too, if you’d like. #ColoradoWildfires #ClimateChangeIsReal #VoteBlue #KamalaForPresident
