Prioritize agility and local leadership: "Last year reinforced that the increasing frequency of disasters—from extreme weather events to conflicts—demands a swift yet adaptive, community-led response from nonprofits and philanthropists. Prioritizing agility and local leadership is not solely about an immediate disaster response; it’s about investing in systems and partnerships that foster lasting impact and sustainability." Our President and CEO Patricia McIlreavy shared tips for #nonprofit leaders with Forbes magazine. https://bit.ly/4jljsUK

Here's an excellent article on different types of dysfunction on #nonprofit boards and how they might be addressed. Boards are critical to nonprofit leadership - that is quite literally their collective role! That's one reason that groups like BoardBuild that support and develop boards are so critical to sustainability and effectiveness in our sector. Shout out to Alex Counts for a great article! https://lnkd.in/gmbpeS7s

Improved governance structures are really beginning to take hold across the nonprofit sector, especially as some organizations experiment with more radical changes to hierarchy. These models do a great job of laying a foundation for future decisions, as a guiding principle can hold everyone involved accountable. #Nonprofit #Governance #Leadership

Need to confirm with more data, but if true, this is scary stuff. See below.
Interesting... “Four of five nonprofits struggle with leadership and management issues and only 11 percent are prepared to scale for optimal impact, according to a new survey of more than 3,000 executives, staff, board members and donors.”

This week was a reminder that uncertainty looms large over nonprofits and social impact organizations right now. Leaders need to be proactive in crafting strategies that prepare their organizations to navigate change while delivering on our mission. The BWF team got questions from clients all week about how to plan and what to do, so we put together this guide, which share how we're helping teams think about and plan for uncertainty. Proud to partner with Mark Marshall to put this together and share it. #philanthropy #nonprofit #leadership

🚨 Nonprofit Leaders: Take a Breath, Stay Strategic 🚨 The federal funding freeze is causing understandable anxiety across the sector. As we process the frustration and uncertainty, it's critical that we remain clear-headed and strategic. Kevin Dean, Ed.D. shares an important perspective in his latest piece: "Take a Breath, Nonprofit Friends. We've Got This." Whether it's planned or not, the departure of your nonprofit's executive director is never an easy time. An interim leader can help guide your team through a tough transition period, clean up any messes, refocus your mission, and set up your next permanent leader for success. https://bit.ly/3Wgl3By

Having served in a few interim roles and positions throughout my career with local #nonprofit organizations, I can say with confidence that there are times in any organization where this makes sense. Sometimes there need to be radical changes and transformation in leadership roles and #interimleadership can allow for those hard yet critical transformations to take place. Particularly, when you need an outside player to join the team to make the necessary reset in culture and direction. Onboarding new leadership is hard enough, getting the job placement wrong can be disastrous. Take the necessary time to consider what the organization and its stakeholders need in the next iteration of leadership, because we know #leadershipmatters.

The results from our 8th annual Nonprofit Standards Benchmarking Survey tell a compelling story of resilience and transformation in the nonprofit sector. I'm continually impressed by how nonprofits adapt to change, and this year’s survey shows that many organizations have emerged from recent challenges stronger than before. As I stated in the report, the story of the nonprofit sector this year is one of organizational resilience. But as external factors shift, organizations need to pinpoint how they will remain relevant. This is a critical moment for nonprofit leaders, and now is the time to leverage organizational strength to deepen your impact. Remember that embracing change is key to thriving in our ever-evolving landscape. Read more in @/The Nonprofit Times: http://bit.ly/48afIAp #NonprofitLeadership
