🎉 GOOD NEWS: California will ban #singleuse propane cylinders, which create a HUGE amount of waste! 🏕️ If you’ve ever gone #camping and needed to cook, chances are you had to purchase a small #propane cylinder. But many of these cylinders are improperly disposed of and cause harmful fires and explosions. The good news is that Governor Gavin Newsom signed CA Senator John Laird's bill that will require Californians to use refillable and reusable 1-pound propane cylinders. We should all avoid using disposable cylinders to protect ourselves and the #environment! By January 2028, only reusable or refillable cylinders can be used and sold in California. CEH is proud to have supported SB1280 and we thank Gov. Newsom for signing this important environmental health bill into law! More info: https://lnkd.in/gFjbZ7nA

Stop dumping toxic waste on Texas land. Defend your property at dontwastetexas.org In Texas, most oilfield waste is disposed by dumping it in giant open pits near the wellsite. These pits scar the landscape and are full of toxins that can contaminate soil, poison groundwater, and harm plants and animals. This is legal in Texas, but you can help change that. The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) sets regulations for waste pits under Statewide Rule 8. The RRC is taking comments from the public about updating Rule 8, which is your chance to demand better regulations. You must post your comments to dontwastetexas.org by October 15th, 5 pm. Current regulations allow companies to dig waste pits: • Without consent from landowners • Without engineering standards to prevent leaks • Without safeguards to protect groundwater This isn’t right, and this is your chance to protect the land. The oil and gas industry that’s so vital to Texas can still prosper without violating your property rights and threatening land, water, livestock, and wildlife. Demand better protection by October 15. dontwastetexas.org #DontWasteTexas

In 2015, it was discovered that oil companies had been injecting their toxic oilfield wastewater into drinking water aquifers in California. Hopefully this is no longer happening, but the oil companies need to dispose of their wastewater somewhere. So in addition to injecting it underground where it could contaminate groundwater the oil companies are also selling their oilfield wastewater to the California farmers to grow our food (because the farmers don’t get first dibs on the good drinking water). This has been happening since the late 1990s and the dirty practice of selling oilfield wastewater to the farmers for agriculture is expanding in California in 2024. I wrote a book about it and a feature screenplay. It’s called Fresh from Farmers Valley. Who wants to see this movie in the theaters? I know I do! * The California EPA is somewhat separate from the EPA in Washington, D.C. and it is allowed to have “primacy” jurisdiction over California. The following article is about injection of oilfield wastewater in Wyoming in 2024… “Feds reject plan to pump Moneta oilfield waste into potential drinking water”

As I continue to research the historic use of former agricultural properties throughout the US, I find it has become more complicated to do so in states where bio solids may been used for decades. Each state has its own laws concerning bio solids use as fertilizer on agricultural lands, so potential PFAS contamination is carefully considered during each ASTM standard 1527-21 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment on such sites planned for development. Tennessee is slowly moving forward concerning the use of bio solids (treated sewage) fertilizer that has caused PFAS contamination of land and drinking water.
🇺🇸 In Tennessee, treated sewage has been used to fertilize land for decades. The practice has come under scrutiny recently because the sludge is often PFAS-contaminated, raising environmental and health concerns. Recent tests by the Sierra Club found #PFAS in soil, groundwater, and drinking water in Sullivan County. A public hearing on this issue will be held on September 5. PFAS-contaminated sewage sludge is spreading across Tennessee lands. The state might intervene.

Did you know that faucet water leaks can waste up to 180 gallons of water per week, according to the Environmental Protection Agency? Not only do leaks waste a lot of water, but they can also increase your water bill. To prevent any issues from arising, inspect your faucets and showerheads regularly for signs of leakage. You should also ensure that your handles aren’t leaking when you turn your water off. They tend to be a sneaky culprit for water leaks. You should also check under your sinks while the water runs to establish if one of your pipes is leaking. If you see water stains, you’ll need to address the issue right away.
