USAID’s Democracy, Human Rights and Governance Bureau has extended the public comment period on the new draft “USAID Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance Policy” until 5:00 p.m. EST, January 22, 2024. Your feedback is valuable; please find the policy and survey here: https://lnkd.in/er34gKmf The goal of this policy is to optimize USAID’s support to partners to invigorate democracy, enhance human rights and justice, and bolster governance that advances the public interest and delivers inclusive development. Reversing nearly two decades of democratic backsliding and expanding the community of resilient, rights-respecting democracies requires a reorientation of USAID’s approach to best address both new and longstanding challenges. The policy elaborates on the pivots and principles that are necessary to stem authoritarianism, counter corruption and kleptocracy, and bring about a sustained, global renewal of democratic governance that delivers dignity, security, and inclusive development.

Are you an organization with initiatives on digitalization and human rights? Call for proposals are still open for the Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI), led by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU Commission, and the Norwegian government. DDI is a programme aimed at safeguarding inclusive democracy and human rights in the digital age. The DDI focuses on support to local civil society in the Global South, particularly in countries undergoing democratic regression and where civic space is under pressure.
