Thrilled to share a significant portion (1/2) from my dissertation work, currently in a preprint and in revision at an esteemed journal. Our study aims to investigate the link between kidney dysfunction and brain health via metabolomics approaches by utilizing both mouse models and human sample analyses. We found that disruptions in tryptophan metabolism due to kidney dysfunction are linked to neurological impairments. Our findings from mouse models were further validated by analyzing plasma samples from individuals with advanced kidney disease, revealing elevated levels of toxic metabolites like quinolinic acid which could be associated with poor quality of life. This points to the kynurenine pathway as a contributing mediator to neurological issues in kidney disease patients. This research marks a significant step toward understanding the systemic effects of kidney disease and opens new potential for diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Stay tuned for further updates! #KidneyBrain #KidneyHealth #BrainHealth #Metabolomics #TranslationalScience #TeamScience #MultiDisciplinary #Research #QualityOfLife Center for Precision Medicine https://lnkd.in/gMjX8wQp
