Independent Community Pharmacist~Pharmacy Owner~Immunizer~Pharmacogenomics~Supplement Recommendations~Health and Wellness
Someone asked me the other day what were my plans for retirement…. I was a bit taken aback…it’s truly not something that I think about. Maybe it should be though? I’ve been practicing pharmacy for 29 years. It’s quite reasonable for someone who has worked almost 30 years to think about retirement, right? …but I’ve only just started my 2nd career, almost 5 years in now. Here’s the thing though, my 2nd career is actually my 1st career. After 23 years with the same retail pharmacy chain I was led into my second career (due to the closing of the entire chain I worked for). Only this time as an Independent Community Pharmacist, both pharmacist and pharmacy owner. I consider this all a blessing. One of the best parts is I became a pharmacy owner as a co-owner with a friend and pharmacist I had worked along side for all of her carrer and most of mine. So here I am in the place I should be and a place that love. It’s somewhere I should have been many years ago, with not even a thought of retirement. Instead thinking constantly of what we can offer our community, how this pharmacy can be the best it can be for our customers and staff and for ourselves while building a strong sustainable future. More on those challenges later… And for you, how many years have you been in your career, is retirement something on your horizon or are you still in the building phase?
