August isn’t over yet! And we’re here to share a few things about Black August. All month long we honor Black freedom fighters, and our fighters from the inside! And achieving liberation isn't just about fighting. We can show solidarity by supporting Black-owned business in our communities, going to Black events being UNAPOLOGETICALLY BLACK! And do not forget to VOTE this season. Change happens when we make it happen. How will you be celebrating? #Blackaugust #Blackliberation #Freedomfighters

Honoring Juneteenth: A Continued Commitment to Justice ✊🏾 This #Juneteenth, we remember and celebrate the bravery and resilience of those who fought to abolish slavery. However, the struggle continues... Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, we renew our commitment to justice and equality. We must continue to work together to dismantle structures of oppression and ensure that none of us are free until ALL of us are free. 📣 What steps can you take today to promote justice and equality? #JusticeForAll #BlackHistory #CivilRights #EmancipationDay #EqualityForAll #RacialJustice #Inclusion #Diversity #BlackLivesMatter #SocialJustice #FreedomForAll
This #Juneteenth, we honor those who fought to abolish slavery and continue our fight for freedom while celebrating the Black community’s rich and diverse history. Juneteenth marks when enslaved Black Americans in Texas were notified of their freedom in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. Today, systemic racism, targeted misinformation, and racial injustice continue to challenge true Black liberation. So, on Juneteenth, as our collective works to fight for justice, let’s recommit to our fight for Black freedom. We’re not free until we’re ALL free.

Celebrating Juneteenth means celebrating Black leadership and Black self-determination. Black Union troops led the efforts to read and implement the Emancipation Proclamation to many parts of Texas where there were still slaves. Clara Peoples, an African American woman from Oklahoma, brought the history and tradition to Oregon when she learned that her Black coworkers at the Kaiser shipyards had never heard of the holiday. In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal and state holiday following the clamor and outrage of months long George Floyd protests, many of which were Black-led. Our Black and African communities have a rich history of making their dignity and independence real and known. Use this year’s Juneteenth to learn the history of America’s second Independence Day. Use it to support the protestors and leaders who remain behind bars to this day because of their participation in the George Floyd uprisings. Support and extend solidarity to Black-led organizations because Juneteenth is everyday.

Today marks the 11 years since the founding of Black Lives Matter in response to the acquittal of the murderer of Trayvon Martin. This global social justice movement is dedicated to ending violence and injustice against Black people, and advocating for a world where Black lives are valued, respected, and celebrated. This decade has seen significant progress, but much more still needs to be done. As a community, we continue to work hard to build trust and achieve a world where systemic racism is eliminated. We are a collective of liberators who believe in an inclusive and spacious movement. We also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the way, we must move beyond the narrow nationalism that is all too prevalent in Black communities. We must ensure we are building a movement that brings all of us to the front." from BlackLivesMatter.org. On the bottom left is a photo of Trayvon Martin next to the Black Lives Matter logo.]
