7 (non-technical) Things I learned during my first 28 days as a company man. 1. Don't act like you know absolutely everything. There is no shame in consulting service hands or toolpushers about something you're not sure of. Be confident, not cocky. 2. Always be prepared to handle unplanned & unscheduled events and always be ready to go to the rig floor. Do your reports whenever you have time, don't leave it for the last hour of your shift. 3. Mud loggers are your best friends. Without mud loggers, a company man's job would be much harder. This emphasizes why you need good mud loggers on your rig (and every other crew too). 4. Praise and appreciate everyone, especially the top performers on the rig. 5. Engage with the crew on a daily basis and encourage everyone to do the same. Build good connections & relationships with everyone. Everything runs smoother when the rig has a mentally healthy work culture. 6. Enforce disciplinary actions when necessary. Don't abuse your power but also know that maintaining order on the rig isn't all sunshine and rainbows. 7. Keep your safety message in pre-tour meetings short and clear. Don't ramble on about irrelevant stuff.

Mine Fatality - Final report issued for fatality on 6/22/2023 "On June 22, 2023, a contract bulldozer operator died when the bulldozer he was operating backed off the edge of a highwall. The bulldozer operator was clearing the bench in preparation for drilling and blasting and had removed the berms along the edge. Best Practices: Install berms, signs, or devices to identify the edge of benches. Perform workplace examinations and correct hazardous conditions before beginning work and as ground conditions warrant. Train equipment operators to identify dangerous conditions and to keep the bulldozer blade between them and the edge near drop-offs." https://lnkd.in/gCPTTyhy

Working in Mining and wondering what Income Protection you need? Naturally, being based in Perth, I have advised on a lot of IP policies for those in the mining sector over the years. In fact I have presented two Statements of Advice to FIFO workers this week alone! These are the key questions I ask my Mining clients before determining the right strategy and contract for them 👇 👉 Do you go to site? 👉 Are you performing manual duties? What does your average day entail? 👉 How do you get to site? 👉 What is your roster? How many hours are you working? 👉What are your qualifications? 👉 How long have you been in your current role? How long have you been in the industry? 👉 What contract are you on? 👉 Are you working at heights, with explosives or offshore? Only once we have established all these can we then work with all available insurers to create the right contract that is tailored to your circumstances. So far this year we have been able to place policies for: 🚢 A tugboat driver offshore 👨🏭 A metallurgist new to the country 👨💼A mining executive 👩💼A Finance Manager for a large mining company 👷♂️A Mining Engineer 👨🔧A shutdown manager on a casual contract Each one had unique circumstances that we had to understand first in order to find the right policy and terms for them. If you are working in Mining and want to discuss your Income Protection needs reach out today 👊

Operator comfort and convenience is one of the primary requirements in mining and construction equipments today. It is a contributing factor to increasing operator efficiency and hence productivity of the equipment. One of the major concerns in equipments today is water ingress into the cabins during heavy rains. At Metalcraft Industries, every cabin is subjected to a thorough shower test for 20 mins using water jet nozzles as per IS standards. Our QA team stringently checks and ensures no leak points exist in the cabins. #operatorcabin #miningequipment #constructionequipment #dozers

Who Can Safely Work on a Rig Monkey Board? A rig monkey board is a small platform located on the derrick of an oil rig. It's a crucial component for various operations, but it also poses significant safety risks. Only trained and #authorized_personnel should be allowed to work on a rig monkey board. Typically, the following individuals are authorized to work on a monkey board: #Derrickman: This is the primary person responsible for the derrick and its operations. They are highly trained and experienced in working at heights and are familiar with all the safety protocols. #Assistant_Derrickman: They assist the Derrickman in various tasks, including those on the monkey board. They are also trained and knowledgeable about safety procedures. It's important to note that: #Unauthorized_personnel should never be allowed on the monkey board. #Safety_harnesses and #lifelines must always be worn when working on the monkey board. #Clear_communication between the #Derrickman and #other_crew_members is essential to ensure safety. #Remember: Working on a rig monkey board is a hazardous task. Adhering to safety regulations and procedures is crucial to prevent accidents and injuries. #safety_first 🤍🇱🇾

16th Dec 2023 Attention #sherworldwidenetworkteam Small fire= friend Big fire= enemy PREVENTION IS BEST. Am ex offshore dude & have come across incidents/accidents. One example : PUMP ROOM - Engineer serviced a pump. Forgot to open discharge valve. Started pump & carried out further duties, other locations. Fire alarm, crew mustered at station. Zone located. We the regular pipelay barge crew had to physically be at the zone. Pump hot, paint on metal walls / pipe emitting black smoke - next would be CLASS D fire ! Wrong type of extinguishing agents can potentially make the situation worse. Refresher courses is good. Point is, safety is on every crews hands, change the mindset. Dude with lots of real life offshore / onshore / projects - experience. In life, never be a know it all but it's a classroom, everyday. Oil rig workers aren't all greasy roustabout types. Some are actually white collar professionals who just happen to have their office offshore for 2 weeks a month. What they all have in common though, is going to and coming from their place of work: the rig. And unless we have some personal connection to the concept, most of us never give the idea much thought. Here, workers are getting ready to be transferred to their rig by crane and in a basket, from a pitching vessel deck. Do this often enough and you will have days when conditions aren't calm which means everything is pitching and rolling, and generally uncomfortable if not a little scary. Be glad if your daily work commute involves just complaining about bumper to bumper traffic.
