We work as a team with a common goal in mind - to deliver on our cold weather action plan that helps keep our customers safe and warm when winter hits. During the recent cold snap that brought below zero temperatures to many parts of Minnesota, our natural gas system remained steady, providing reliable and resilient energy to the communities we're privileged to serve. #ColdWeatherPlan #NaturalGas #WinterPreparedness #TeamWork

Technology we developed at Disaster Tech provides risk of potential power outage duration based on wind speed information. Here we see that higher-end forecast scenarios show long duration outage risk extending well inland from the wind field from #hurricanehelene. Helene maintains intensity as a result of a unique interaction with what we call a middle latitude weather system, with a jet stream interaction helping to sustain intensity longer after landfall.

At Disaster Tech, our decision-support technology, PRATUS, uses wind speed data to predict potential power outage durations. As seen in these forecasts for #HurricaneHelene, higher-end wind scenarios are extending the risk of long-duration outages well inland, far from the core wind field. #PRATUS #PowerOutagePrediction #ImpactTrack

On March 15th, hail smashed into thousands of solar panels in Fort Bend County, Texas, causing significant damage and resulting in a solar farm operating at reduced capacity. While weather events cannot be entirely avoided, certain protocols can be implemented to reduce the extent of equipment damage and financial loss. Climavision radars provide gap-filling data, giving greater lead time to threatening storm systems than ever before. This provides decision makers with more time to enact safety measures, like rotating solar panels, to protect the panel's surface from possible hail damage. Read more from Newsweek about this hail event, and visit our website to learn more about our Radar-as-a-Service offering: https://hubs.la/Q02srWMZ0 #RenewableEnergy #SolarPanels

Did you know that hospitals often rely on #naturalgas to keep life-saving services running during severe weather and natural disasters? Natural gas is typically delivered through an underground pipeline—meaning the energy source is usually safe from the effects of heavy storms and extreme weather conditions. #NationalPreparednessMonth

Check out my new Southeastern Wind Coalition blog post on #wind and #WinterStormEnzo. In MISO, wind made up ~20% of the generation mix last Tuesday and Wednesday while the sun didn't shine and demand skyrocketed. This storm demonstrated that wind energy can—and should—play a key role in our nation’s ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy to ensure grid resiliency, stabilize electricity prices, and protect families and businesses in times of need.
❄️ Each winter, concerns rise over the electric grid and our nation’s capacity to meet energy demand. Winter Storm Enzo has demonstrated that wind energy can—and should—play a key role in our nation’s ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy to ensure grid resiliency, stabilize electricity prices, and protect families and businesses in times of need.
