We've just released the Q3 2024 edition of the 50 States of Power Decarbonization! The report finds that 47 states, including D.C. and Puerto Rico, took a total of 344 actions related to electric power decarbonization and resource planning during the quarter. NEW: Today, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) selected 20 projects across 16 states to receive up to $371 million to accelerate the permitting of high-voltage, interstate transmission projects and support community infrastructure projects along major new and upgraded transmission lines. Today’s Transmission Siting and Economic Development (TSED) selections will help uplift communities through economic development investments that generate benefits in communities impacted by transmission development, while also accelerating project reviews by siting authorities. https://lnkd.in/ee4hJs3e

Love to see it: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has just announced $2.2 billion in awards under the 40103(b) Grid Innovation Program, which was authorized by Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support innovative projects that enhance grid resilience and reliability. The DOE has selected eight projects, many of which will deploy high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology or utilize high-performance conductors (HPCs). The projects will result in over 600 miles of new transmission build and 400+ miles of transmission line upgrades. In all, the awards will help unlock an additional 13 gigawatts of grid capacity. Notably, the largest award will go to Grid United's North Plains Connector, the first major transmission connection between the Pacific Northwest and upper Midwest. By linking three grid operators - the Midcontinent System Operator (MISO), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) - the project will improve the overall reliability and flexibility of the power system, while reducing the risk of outages and enhancing energy security. Wind Power today in the PJM regional territory- sustaining 3MW of power from the wind. PJM Interconnection coordinates the movement of electricity through all or parts of Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. It's an amazing technology.
