As a mentor and educator, Dr. Noor often serves as faculty at various conferences and programs, and Boston Scientific’s Fellows 101 Program was the first of many in May!  During a dinner with vascular surgery fellows, faculty discussed life in the interventional world and how it differs for a surgeon, cardiologist, or interventional radiologist. Faculty shared their personal trials and tribulations with the attendees. I'm thrilled to share that our manuscript, titled "Health Technology Assessment of Cardiopulmonary Bypass Circuit with and without Phosphorylcholine Coating: A Retrospective Study on Safety and Efficiency in Cardiac Surgery," has been accepted for publication in the Life Journal! -impact factor of 3.2 (2023) and a 5-year impact factor of 3.1 (2023), citescore 4.3; Life Journal is ranked in the top quartile (Q1) by the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This recognition underscores the importance and quality of our research. Our study provides critical insights into the safety and efficiency of phosphorylcholine-coated cardiopulmonary bypass circuits, potentially influencing future practices in cardiac surgery. I am deeply grateful to my co-authors, the research team, and all our collaborators for their hard work and dedication. Sometimes analytics projects take years to realize tangible outcomes. This one is 5 years in the making. Our cardiac surgery teams across UPMC achieved patient outcomes in the top quartile of the US by marrying analytics to clinical practice. Some categories, like aortic valve surgery, our teams were in the top 5% of the US outcomes. 5 years ago we set out to centralize and unify our clinical registry data with the intention of helping drive better decision making and improving outcomes. We're seeing those results now. But we still have more to do. More lives to save. Lesson: Analytics doesn't solve problems over night and certainly not in isolation. Analytics is a marathon, not a sprint, and needs operationalized, not just presented, to truly make a difference. #upmc #cardiacsurgery #dataanalytics
