Earlier today, I saw a campaign by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) , and it reminded me of the encounters I had with some mothers during my monitoring activities in the 2nd quarter of the year. One of the key lessons I took away from that experience is that vaccination is not just for our own good, but also for the good of our community.
During one of our training sessions as Independent Monitors, we were informed of the importance of sustaining the gains made in the fight against polio. While Nigeria has been certified polio-free, it is essential to continue protecting the most vulnerable groups by boosting population immunity through both supplementary and routine immunization activities like this exercise.
I’ve personally seen the value of such initiatives while interacting with mothers during immunization campaigns. Many were hesitant, but through education and open dialogue, I was able to reassure them about the safety and efficacy of vaccines. Vaccination is your contribution to the health of your community—it helps protect the most vulnerable, prevents outbreaks, and secures the health of future generations.
Let’s continue to raise awareness and support immunization programs that protect not only ourselves but also our communities.

While it is true that some people may experience side effects following vaccination, severe reactions are extremely rare.
The benefits of vaccination in preventing serious diseases and outbreaks far outweigh any potential risks.
