#SeattleCityCouncil - With over 75 applications officially submitted, the Seattle City Council has some work to do. Lucky for them, many are already in resume review mode as they are in the middle of hiring their staff.
Here are some next steps:
Once King County has officially certified that the applicants are Seattle residents and they meet the voting history requirements (they are still working on this), a packet with all the approved applications will be forwarded to all the City Council Members at the same time for them to individually start reviewing and then meeting and interviewing applicants that they like. (The list will also be made publicly available).
For sure with all the signaling that many of the applicants have already been doing many of the council members will already have an eye out for some applications but considering the overall volume they might very well come across some gems they were not expecting.
That number of 75 applications very well might be a City of Seattle record for applications to fill a vacant council seat and also might also indicate that although there is at times a sentiment that “nobody wants a job on the council” that there is actually a lot of interest citywide.
We will see how far that interest goes though if for example if it turns out that the council would prefer a “caretaker”, It will be interesting to see how many applicants will no longer be interested in the position.
As of 5:00pm today - the update is that the list will be made public tomorrow as King County races to verify a rush of last minute applications. More to come tomorrow.
