It is my pleasure to recommend the new book by Dr. Heather Sandison, entitled Reversing Alzheimer's, The New Toolkit to Improve Cognition and Protect Brain Health. As a mainstream neurologist who is certified in functional medicine, I can confidently say that the news of an Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis and awareness of cognitive decline, is too often met with the response that nothing can be done about it, or that this is normal aging. What I want all my patients to know is that the choice is theirs. They can stay buckled into the journey that is their current trajectory, or they can make choices to alter that trajectory through therapeutic lifestyle medicine and targeted treatments based on systems biology. In the end, the problem is not going to be fixed by a single pill whether that is a drug or a supplement, but by a concerted effort to identify all the leaky holes in the roof and to develop a comprehensive plan that represents meaningful, lifelong change for the person who is affected, along with their families or loved ones who represent their support system.
