There's an old saying in medicine "common things happen commonly" -- but clinicians still need to be alert to more unusual health conditions. That's why patient case studies are so important. A case study is a write-up of the presentation and clinical management of a specific patient, with all personal details removed and consent provided. “Doctors share case studies to spread knowledge about unique or rare clinical scenarios they encounter,” said Dr Brandon Stretton, Basic Physician Trainee at Central Adelaide. “By publishing these cases, they help other healthcare professionals learn from their experiences, which can be incredibly useful in diagnosing and treating future patients.” Dr Stretton and Central Adelaide ophthalmologist Dr Sumu Simon recently published a case study about a man who presented to the emergency department reporting sudden onset vision loss in his right eye lasting several hours. The case is also presented in a recent episode of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians podcast, which was prepared in collaboration with clinicians from Northern Adelaide Local Health Network. Sometimes I think, why is research important? My friends often ask what I do in the lab and why research matters anyway. A young doctor noticed that patients treated by nurses who washed their hands had fewer infections. He was curious and decided to investigate. This simple observation by Ignaz Semmelweis led to the practice of hand hygiene in hospitals. His discovery drastically reduced mortality rates and revolutionized medical practices worldwide. It all started with a small question and a lot of curiosity. Research isn’t just about complex experiments; it’s about seeing the world differently and finding answers to questions that matter. It’s the cornerstone of progress and innovation. So next time you wonder why research is important, remember it’s the quiet force behind the scenes making our world healthier and safer. #Research #Innovation #Curiosity #IgnazSemmelweis #Inspiration #Science #Healthcare #LinkedIn #Scientist #Curiosity #Innovation #motivation #personaldevelopment #future #creativity

💪 Say Goodbye to Weak Bones and Wobbly Legs! 🌟 Discover the Secret to Staying Strong & Active at Any Age—No Matter How Old You Are! 🏋️♀️
Finding Great Holistic Thinking Doctors Secrets 👨⚕️ Today, let's unravel the challenge of finding a good doctor, where medicine often walks the fine line between faith and fear. Many prescribed treatments lack scientific backing, and patients fear discontinuing medications. So, how do you choose a reliable doctor? Firstly, seek board-certified professionals; in the UK, doctors undergo postgraduate training and join medical associations. Recommendations from friends and family are gold. Nurses, witnessing doctors in action, are invaluable sources. Before your appointment, prepare a list of questions. Be assertive. If they hastily book you for a procedure, politely decline. Take time to do further research. Know your NNTs. (number need to treat). Questions are your allies. What are the risk versus benefits. Is this treatment going to save my life? Be cautious with cardiology and oncology; some practices may prioritize profit over patient benefit. Don't be discouraged if a doctor deflects your inquiries. Seek second, third, or even fourth opinions. A wise doctor welcomes second opinions. Dive into scientific papers related to your condition; reach out to the authors. The healthcare landscape is vast, and consumers must ensure their families receive the best treatment. In this journey, choose your doctor wisely, armed with knowledge, and don't hesitate to advocate for the well-being of yourself and your loved ones. The path to good health is a partnership, and you have the power to make informed decisions. #HealthcareDecisions #ChoosingADoctor #MedicalCertification #PatientAdvocacy #ScientificMedicine #MedicalResearch #SecondOpinion #HealthcareTips #PatientEmpowerment #MedicalKnowledge

Physician Humility Physician humility is crucial for tackling modern healthcare challenges, building patient trust, and fostering collaboration in medical environments. It is essential in various aspects of medical practice, including learning, managing errors, tolerating uncertainty, and fostering trust and teamwork. However, traditional medical values face challenges from factors like organizational exploitation, contributing to burnout and dissatisfaction. This has led to an identity crisis in medicine, where many struggle to reconcile ideals with the realities of practice. https://lnkd.in/dK4VHDrS
