California State Assembly Member Mark Gonzalez’s community swearing in was equal parts celebration and rallying cry, bringing together leaders across the 54th assembly district and beyond.  I was proud to be among the speakers attesting to the new Assemblymember’s leadership and coalition-building, alongside Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, State Senator Maria Elena Durazo, former Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, former Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez and others. Hosted in Downtown at the Japanese American National Museum, the event featured dynamic performances from 3 youth groups: the Hwarang Youth Foundation Drum Team, Eastwind Foundation Lion Dancers and Roosevelt High School Mariachi Performers. In conjunction with the celebration of #LunarNewYear, it was the type of energizing, focused re-beginning we need as we face the challenges ahead for our region.
