#Sepsis is a global health crisis that affects an estimated 49 million people worldwide. In our next chapter as Vantive, we will look to build on our commitment to help manage this life-threatening condition. Raising awareness about the signs is a critical first step: fever, infection, cognitive decline, and severe illness. For every hour that treatment is delayed, the risk of death increases by as much as 8%. With early detection and timely access to treatment, we can work together to make a difference. The Sepsis Programme recently partnered with Parkrun Ireland to mark World Sepsis Day and help raise awareness of sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by any infection. It is important to recognise the signs and to get urgent medical help if sepsis is suspected. The National Sepsis Report 2023 found that, although cases of sepsis had increased, the mortality rate - 19.3% - had decreased when compared with the previous year - 21.8%. Many quality improvement initiatives are being implemented by staff across hospitals, helping to reduce sepsis-associated deaths. Antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens can cause a mild infection to become a difficult-to-treat one. People are often unaware of this problem until one of their relatives experiences sepsis. Therefore, an effective community educational campaign on AMR is crucial, especially in low- and middle-income countries. 🔷 #AntimicrobialResistance #SepsisAwarenessMonth
