Our brand Nylabone along with long-time partner American Humane, sponsored the reunification of a retired U.S. Air Force explosive detection dog with his former handler, a Senior Airman in the U.S. Air Force. Their efforts helped pay for nine-year-old German Shepherd Maci’s transportation to Oklahoma, along with veterinarian services and subsequent care. There he and Senior Airman Hadiya began their new chapter together. Check out the press release for more! https://lnkd.in/gUHf_VmK #Nylabone #NylaboneCares #CentralToHome

“In the military, constant instructions can sometimes feel restrictive, but there's one command you should never ignore: staying hydrated is crucial,” says Luka Zorenc, a former veterinary technician and medic in Special Operations Forces, now serving as the Chief Training Officer for Støne Group, a global risk management firm. Even as summer comes to an end, Luka’s discussion on heat-related injuries, their prevention, and the best gear for extreme conditions is vital for year-round preparedness. A breakdown of this lesson in excellent communications from British Army following the bizarre scenes of horses running through London yesterday... Crisis communications need to demonstrate CONCERN for those impacted, the actions taken to exert CONTROL over the situation and provide reassurance that includes a COMMITMENT to learn from the experience. Breaking this down in this example: - Simple and clear explanation of the facts and what caused the incident. - Human and emotive message, without hyperbole, that addresses people's concerns about the welfare of people and the horses - Expression of thanks to those who supported the response. - Reassurance about safety and how rare incidents are. - Ends with a clear call to action to stakeholders - in this case the public to be mindful of horses. #CrisisCommunications #Crisis #Reputation #BritishArmy #Horses #London https://lnkd.in/eFKQSNhe

Two interesting points - we have lots of vets who qualify and need support and service dogs although the DVA does not pay for a service animal there are organizations that can help. PTSD dogs are in great demand and can be a lifesaver! If a disabled vet requires a service dog the DVA will pay for veterinary care. Our military working dogs are not as lucky many are reunited and retired with their handlers but the handlers many junior enlisted take on the financial burden for a MWD who if human would be a disabled vet. Tell your congressman that these handlers who step-up and care for a retired battle buddy (K-9) - who has no doubt saved lives and been in harms way - deserve the support of the VA in caring for our retired K-9 veterans. We have made progress but let’s help the vets who are stepping up to help fellow vets (including contract dogs - working dogs on the cheap for services that didn’t program to meet needs). I know how many USAF dog teams I sent to Iraq on 7 days notice because the Army and USMC failed to plan for the dog teams required. After 9/11 the USAF supplied 80% of the teams needed by the other services and for large civilian gatherings. The Air Force K-9s had the country’s back when we were unprepared!

Did You Know...Dog Size Matters? https://lnkd.in/dkpSzf7h Service Dogs are not all Labrador, German Shepherd and the like. This is partly due to the specific tasks the dog is trained to perform for the handler... #asdregistry #ASD #servicedogsforveterans #servicedogs #bogusservicedogs #veterans #veteransupport

An important aspect of training not only Service Dogs, but pet dogs as well is commands from distance. We need them to be able to follow commands if they are not in direct physical contact with us. Tasks Servce Dogs perform are often without that direct physical contact. They can also be without a verbal command which is why we also train them to pick up on subtle cues. Let's get out and train and have some fun. Heeling is Healing www.k9heroes4heroes.com #servicedogs #veterans #firstresponders #veteransupport #dogtraining
