Just inside the main entrance of #CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia is a white marble wall with a field of stars etched into the stone. It is the most sacred space on the Agency’s compound. Each star memorializes a life lost in the line of duty, a sacrifice on behalf of our nation. The Memorial Wall was created fifty years ago, in July 1974, when 31 stars were chiseled into the marble. It was done without fanfare. No ceremony was held; no pictures were taken. The stars and inscription simply appeared. Now, fifty years later, there are 140 stars on the Wall. That’s how it’s supposed to always be. Working for intelligence is always “thankless.” You could save the world and no one will ever know. It’s good that’s that way. You don’t do it for fame or glory but for your nation.

Every time I entered Langley during my DMV tenure backstopping operatives secret identities, I took time to read the ledger of names of those who died in service to our nation. I also tried to make time to visit the museum and reflect on the history from the OSS to the CIA and its contributions to our ongoing fight for freedom against foreign enemies. Thank God for such patriotic men and women who serve us so well in the shadow world of espionage.

Each star symbolizes Liberty. We are fortunate enough to have so many with integrity for our Nation. To the CIA's intellectual prowess, prestige, and productivity. 🌎🌐 Long live, "CIA Genius, CIA Superiority." "Faster than a speeding bullet." I’m trying to think of a single good thing the CIA has ever done

When I first saw this memorial I was struck by the fact that more than half of the stars at that time were nameless patriots.

It was an honor and a deeply moving experience to visit the Memorial Wall on various occasions and paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in clandestine service. Their bravery and dedication remind us of the profound costs of freedom and the importance of truth. There on the front lines they embodied John 8:32 “YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE." We owe a debt of gratitude to these heroes, and their legacy continues to inspire us all. #NeverForget #HonoringTheFallen #ServiceAndSacrifice

The FOB/Camp Chapman attack was a sad and tragic event. However, there are many important lessons from the counterintelligence standpoint for those who want to remember and learn.
