I wrote an article for Mining Magazine about the FAST-41 Act published on Jan 17, 2024, on this law that could revive the mining industry in the USA. The act aims to streamline the environmental and permitting reviews for major infrastructure projects, including mines. Article discusses the metal sourcing issues with the F-35 fighter plane for samarium cobalt - a metal that makes that plane fly literally - as a security concern that triggered a later Critical Metals fund controlled by the US Airforce in the US Pentagon.
I interviewed two Republican Senators: Lisa Murkowski and John Barrasso. In particular, Senator Lisa Murkowski shared her clear views on how the act could boost US metal security and reduce the reliance on foreign sources. #miningmagazine hashtag

Senator Murkowski, who authored most of the amendments to the act, was particularly vocal about the problems of the current permitting system in the USA early in the interview questions. Here is what she said in the interview:
“The US federal permitting process is broken, and on any given day, it can be any number of things that go wrong. The abrupt shifts in policy between administrations, agency delays, slowness to process paperwork, a simple question on a requested payment, litigation—those are just a few of the challenges that all too often add months or years to this process.”
US Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Where did your mines go, American?
