Exciting to see this announcement from GENIUSQ.io by Vic Burconak As readers of my posts will know this “future” (now here ; ) is something that I have been explaining and advocating for - for consumer benefits - for the best part of a decade - arising out of 4 decades of deep experience in ICT, online information, real time data and transactions. It has led me to - because the Rules and Regulatory Environment were not remotely conducive for using such data - devoting the last 8 years or so to Policy and Regulatory development … with an exclusive Consumer Centricity focus. All policy, not just on these “data” elements — because my realisation is that with data the opportunities of FRE - it’s FORECASTABLE Renewable Energy - and CER/DER Flexibility - the WHOLE system “flips” to the Demand side instead of Supply side “balancing” - and with it huge reductions in system costs (esp to consumers), huge improvements in system security and resiliency, etc. It’s now the “Consumers’ Grid”‼️ Products such as GeniusQ are flag bearers of that Consumers’ Grid. The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has been delivering Rule Changes, and working on more, that will deliver these reforms. It’s a slow slog because our (Australia’s NEM) being dominated by just three big behemoth (oligopoly-like) “gentailers”. I’ve been really fortunate to have been able to work closely with the AEMC - great people and leadership there that have decreed that “Consumer Centricity” is the foundation of everything they do! Of particular relevance is the “Unlocking CER Benefits through Flexible Trading” RC led by Lisa Shrimpton as it brings the first BTM “service disaggregation” opportunities into the NER. Also the massive foundation delivered by the Meter Review (led by Ed Chan) and the Rule Changes flowing from it (led by Mike Bradley’s and now Andrew Lewis’ team esp Drew Butterworth, John Mackay et al). The big one - RTDA - Real Time Data Access - Rule Change will have its Draft Determination release in the next month or so!
