This ethos is woven into our collaborations with housing associations, scheme managers, and residents, ensuring our services are delivered with dementia-friendly principles at their heart.   More than just supporters, we are active advocates for creating environments, processes, and communications that meet the highest standards of dementia support. Our aim is to contribute to building communities that are not only inclusive and supportive but deeply understanding of the needs of those living with dementia. We have big plans for our dementia giving this year, with a vision to grow our #coffee and #hotchocolate contracts throughout the UK. We’ve had great news of some secure longer term contracts giving us certainty of supply which takes us on our next journey and that’s partnerships with businesses who share our vision for the UK’s first Dementia Village. Not a new concept, but a gamechanger for the UK and originally founded by Be Advice | You know us from The Hogeweyk. World's first "Dementia Village" Think of the funds we can save long term in healthcare in the UK and the dignity and support we can offer thousands of families with dementia. 6 months ago we launched Curated Care, and the results indicate it was the right decision. In fact, we are projecting our next location to open Sage Oak of Denton will be a 3rd curated care dementia home. Essentially as an industry we have two options: A) everyone with dementia or some form of brain change all lives together B) creating unique environments where people can move through a continuum of care INSIDE of Dementia care umbrella 6 months ago we rolled out option B, and the residents, families and the staff have all thrived, and sales success has followed. I’m not going to sugar coat it, option B, what we call Curated Care, is difficult, in some ways it’s very operationally challenging, however at our core we know it’s the right thing and our job is to find ways to execute on difficult concepts. To make the impossible, possible. Curated Care started as a dream, and now thanks for our amazing teams and their hard work and the trust of so many families, it’s the most successful launch in Sage Oak history. Brilliant to see HammondCare’s latest home opening in #adelaide! I love so much about the design of these homes - the attention to detail and dedication to prioritising the needs of people living with dementia is inspiring. I’m always impressed how each new HammondCare development is more evolved and more supportive, thinking in detail about creating privacy and dignity, ease of wayfinding with line of sight and multiple cues, appropriate scale, good contrast, hiding staff features and promoting a domestic and familiar aesthetic. There is SO much work in getting the design right. Top 3 features - 1. that fresh-cook kitchen at the centre of the home which not only acts as a beautiful multi sensory landmark, filling the home with the smells of good cooking, but truly activates the home as a place for living. #cultivateahome 2. Proximity to garden spaces. Each living/dining room has an immediate, direct easy access to a safe, dedicated domestic-looking garden. This is so important - to be effective, people need to be able to find outdoor spaces themselves and use them at will, not wait for someone to help. #getoutdoors 3. The very normal shop! Awesome to see the evolution of the shop, first implemented at HammondCare Horsley at least 10 years ago with brilliant results. This iteration can be accessed by the public as well as residents and staff. This is a step towards breaking down stigma, and giving people normal things to do which they would have done at home. What is a dementia-friendly community? Dementia-friendly communities address the needs specific to their residents, advocating for dementia awareness and providing services, programs, and public spaces that support people with dementia and their care partners.    Each dementia-friendly community is different. Some towns organize workplace training so professionals can identify and offer solutions to problems commonly encountered with people living with dementia. Other regions focus on introducing programs like memory cafes or respite programs to directly assist people with memory loss.    All dementia-friendly communities share one thing: a mission to make their neighborhood inclusive, welcoming those touched by dementia to continue to be active, contributing citizens. Big news! The Government's Jersey Dementia Strategy has just been launched, providing a roadmap for how Jersey can provide better support to those living with dementia. Hundreds of families shared their personal struggles with us to help shape the strategy which means the priorities are all things you raised as being important.
