This is such a powerful listen, giving a human view of Keir Starmer. Thank you Jake Humphrey Damian Hughes and the High Performance A couple of my key take aways was keir reflecting that striving towards a goal to not forget the journey. If you cannot make a decision then you are in the wrong position. Taking space away from your job and work is important. The team is more powerful than the individual alone. If you want to know what to improve in your organisation ask the most junior members without any other management what they struggle with and how do they work around their challenges.

Recruiters play a unique leadership role that can transcend into mentorship as well. We think of recruiting officers as someone who we will either work with or will never hear from them again. But when these officers have to reject an applicant with potentials they can leave a few words where they came up short. On the other side of the table, applicants need to have a growth mindset as well to absorb the knowledge of thyself.

Dark Traits - High Performers Have you ever watched the Amazon TV show "The Boys"? https://rb.gy/tf2ugf I recently started Season 4 and it's a fascinating exploration of what happens when Superheroes (The Seven), as popular as celebrities and as influential as politicians, abuse their powers instead of using them for good. The story follows a group of ordinary individuals forming "The Boys," driven to expose the truth about "The Seven" and their powerful backers at Vought, the organization that created these Superheroes. This narrative offers a compelling parallel to a significant aspect of organizational dynamics: High-Performing Employees with Dark Traits. In organizations, sometimes these high performers are left unchecked, and their negative behaviours—whether knowingly or unknowingly—are ignored or misrepresented by their managers. Just as the superheroes in "The Boys" manipulate their powers for personal gain, employees exhibiting dark traits such as Insensitivity, Self-Obsession, Machiavellianism,  Temperamental, and Impulsiveness can undermine cohesion and productivity. These traits often manifest in manipulation, lack of empathy, and a focus on personal agendas over team goals. These parallels serve as cautionary tales for organizational leaders. Much like rogue superheroes disrupt societal norms in "The Boys," employees with dark traits can disrupt team dynamics and organizational culture. If a company is an orchestra, the CEO isn't just the conductor. They also play an instrument. CEOs are the head of the Horns. 🎺 You need to have a horn, both externally when you're promoting the company, but also internally. You're directing people toward their north star, setting the vision and goals, communicating missions, mandates, strategies, planning, and execution. You've got to have that horn. And you can't just say—or play—these things once. You've got to say it multiple times. You should actually be *creating* new horns out of some of your team, because a horn section always sounds better when there's more brass. More brass is a richer sound.
