In this paper, Bolade Hamed Banougnin and colleagues investigated the associations between mobile phone use and sexual risks in a cohort of 10–24-year-olds in South Africa. Findings indicated that social media use alone was linked to a high risk of unprotected sex. For those not living with HIV, health content use was linked to increased risks of inequitable sexual partnerships. A consistent body of evidence shows that testosterone therapy in hypogonadal men (total testosterone < 12 nmol/L) may have a beneficial effect on several aspects of sexual life; in contrast, there is no evidence of benefits in using testosterone therapy for treating sexual dysfunction in eugonadal men. The beneficial effect on sexual function seems to be more related to testosterone level normalisation than the specific testosterone formulations used. A meta-analysis of placebo-controlled RCTs showed that testosterone therapy significantly improves erectile function (as measured by IIEF-Erectile Function domain score) and that patients with more severe hypogonadism (i.e., total testosterone < 8 nmol/L) are more likely to achieve better improvement than patients with milder hypogonadism (i.e., total testosterone < 12 nmol/L). Similar results were observed for sexual desire; however, the presence of metabolic comorbidity (such as diabetes and obesity) decreased the magnitude of these improvements. In particular, testosterone therapy alone resulted in a clinically effective outcome only in patients with milder ED. 🔔WCG featured🔔 Our very own Tara Coffin, Erin Bower, and Sharad Adekar, MD, PhD share their insights in the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics in their research article "Contraception Requirements in Clinical Research Consent Forms: Assessing and Supporting Gender Inclusive Practices." This article explores how the use of gendered language in the consent process for clinical research contributes to the marginalization of gender-diverse populations. Analysis of more than 289 clinical trial consent forms revealed that many could have been entirely gender-inclusive if they excluded references to biological-sex-specific contraceptives in section headings. These findings suggest that achieving gender-inclusive language may require only minor revisions.
